i have buddies that work at summit racing equip and chevrolet dealers. i hear the same thing that corvette owners are the most arrogant cockiest people. they dont like the car either because of the people /culture.
even though i own a lowly c4, i have to convince new people i meet (ex. mustang guys or mechanics at shops) that i am not one of 'those' corvette guys. i assure them the corvette guys they hate no longer drive c4s and have long moved onto newer models.
the wounds run pretty deep here. i used to hang out on off-topic but newer c5/6 corvette owners would say stuff like 'oh look he drives a c4' if they didnt agree with what i said.
i saw the arrogance the worst with c5. in fact c5 was where people started calling it c5 instead of 'corvette'. before c5, you just said you had a corvette and what year. c5 owners disnt want their pride and joy associated with the rough riding, tough egress, cramped corvettes of the past .
all this said, i have actually gotten waves from c7 owners.
ill never forget about when i blew a tire on my c4 and pulled into a golf course. a c6 drove in, and said something to his passenger about not having to worry about that with his car - all without stopping to help.
a buddy of mine owns a 2015 mclaren (he traded in his gallardo bc it was too slow) and he told me the exotic car guys are a friendlier crowd than the (new) corvette crowd.
i am sorry if this post of mine is a downer, but the truth hurts sometimes. corvette guys need to work on their image. we are not thought highly of (even by newer corvette guys -and thats the saddest part)
I too get stereotyped and people tell others that I have a vette. I always say "I do, but I'm not a vette guy, in fact I have a C4 for the fun factor and it's really not much more than a body at this point".
Younger egocentric guys driving vettes, because not GM are copying foreign cars to compete, some buy for status and others want fun. Old guys always ruining the corvette scene and holding it back. Not just the age, but must be the generations.
Were they not cry babies about the performance GM could have carried on much earlier with performance progress instead of regressing in the '90s.
If I was not so cheap and poor, I'd have a viper. The mods and repairs scare me though. If a trailer park renter can drive a c4 I feel I can too.
I WILL own a Viper someday, I just won't sell the Vette to get one. I want a GTS really bad but I'll get an RT/10 if nothing else... The GTS is such a gorgeous car to me. The SRT-10 is nice but still quite pricey and the current gen is again pricey and just doesn't appeal to me as much. Its very very nice but I would take a GTS over the current gen any day.
I think the "new" guys with their C7's thought they were just buying a car, when they really bought into a friendly community. They just need to see a little courtesy so they can learn what courtesy means!
It might not matter if they see a little courtesy. The might not be into that entire culture thing. I own a HD. Doesn't mean I have to get into whatever it is they are into and have HD tattoos all over my butt.
The best thing I can say about that car is it has an actual pedal height adjuster, which is awesome, but everything else sucks. At least that's the way the 96 GTS car was ...

I always wanted a 96 GTS.
Do you mean they have problems or just not user friendly?
I have gone out of my way to make my c4 an old school muscle car and have no creature comforts. It's loud, hot, and rides kind of rough.

I'm not a fan of this guy and he's driving basically what I want someday but even he says it surprised him with how nice it was to drive. At least compared how everyone says the Viper is so "brash" and "unrefined". I will want a Viper no matter what anyone tells me. Always wanted one since I was a kid.

I like that kind of driving experience.
Well it might be a good fit for you then.
I just didn't like the road noise, the barely adequate ac, the rattles, the plastic, even the transmission is loud. There's too much slop in the drive train for some reason and there's more than an audible clunk with every shift. The steering is so tight (which I hated) that keeping it going in a straight line just takes too much driver input. I swear a 20 degree turn of the str wheel results in a 90 degree turn for the car, and if you barely nudge the str wheel your at least changing lanes. Its exhausting to drive for more than 20 minutes because of this trait. On the good side of things, its fast, both in a straight line and around corners, but its just too much for anything besides the race track.

There it is ... even the right color. He probably spent his last penny on it so he cant really see it for what it is.
My brother taught me the wave when we were in his 61..that was back in 66. I thought it was cool. Its just corvette guys with the little hand flip saying hi and being in the same interest group besides whatever else you are, or think you are. Its a gesture of some sort of kinship. The Harley guys used to do it too.
I think this has to do w/ more than just the wave and who's the avg C7 owner. I believe it come down to car culture. Its not the same, the passion is dying down a bit overall IMO. There was a thread a couple months ago about how ppl are just not into cars like they used to be (younger kids, teens etc)
Think about it. Everything new is made to be more practical not just "faster sleeker advanced etc" The more practical cars become, the less ppl have to invest time effort money into them. Easier to maintain but less of an opportunity to be more connected to the vehicle. At some point cars will need like 1-2 shop visits every 100k miles!
Also lot of younger folks drive less bc they have a virtual world to keep friendships goin. At least thats how it is where there's a lot of traffic like socal
So these C7 owners are just not true car guys/gals. My best friend wants to buy a C7 and he doesn't know anything about cars besides where the gas goes n that the oil needs to be changed. I dont know a lot but I aint that bad. Same goes for all the guys around my age pulling up to the gym in new Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers etc
Kinda true. You azzholes are scum. Once I become a C7 guy, my C6 buddies can go to hell.
LOL! so true
this is my number 1 complaint about corvette culture. no respect (or a hats off) for where we came from.
itd be like telling your grandpa off because he didnt run track as fast as you did (albeit he was on cinder track, crappy shoes, outdated training methods).....
my mustang buddies 'claim' that old fox body 5.0's still get respect from new shelby owners.
I only see other Corvettes of any generation occasionally where I live, but most of the time they will wave when I'm in my '86. When I'm driving one of my Jeeps, other Jeep drivers will wave most of the time too. I guess it just depends on whether they're into cars or not.
Sounds like a pretty ignorant thread. I have 1996 GS #828, 1971 LS5, and a 2016 ZO6. I wave at everyone. Vette or no Vette, if it's a sweet car, then they get a wave. This bad picture shows two of them (GS and ZO6) in the garage. Some people wave back, others don't. I don't get my feeling hurt over other people's opinions. I collect these for myself not for others to give a thumbs up to for what I have (this is coming from a 34 year old).
