Default new to me c4 jacking question..

Just picked up a new to me C4 vert. I have race ramps. Question is how to ultimately get it up on race ramps. My plan is to drive the front of the car onto the ramps so the front will be lifted, but what about raising the rear?? Do I need two jacks? One on each side of the car using the jacking locations on the rear as lift points? I guess I will need someone to help me so we jack up the rear end at the same time to lift the rear end of the car OR is the (jack-adapter device) from the corvette gadget man a good option? I'm nervous about lifting the rear end of the car using the jack adapter device. Seems like a lot of weight and stress on the differential which is the shown lifting point. Also worried about stability (jack slipping off the differential) when lifting. I will have to jack up the rear quite high in order to slide the "show cribs" under the rear tires.

On my C5/C6 Z06s I just roll the jack under the rear and lift it on the rear cross member. When the car is high enough I slide the race ramp "show cribs" under the rear tires and lower the car onto them and I'm done.

Most sensible option #1;
Drive up on ramps, use the rear jacking points (labelled bottom of rocker) on each side to stand the rear.

Most sensible option #2;
Here is how I do it...
*Jack one side of car from the front jack point (labelled bottom of rocker, under front of door). This lift one whole side of car.
*I jack stand that side under the frame pinch welds.
*Repeat on the other side
*Test by shaking car.
*Implement 2ndary backups as you see fit.

Because there is so much "hoopla" about jacking C4's on this forum (and I don't get why that is), I timed myself the last time I did the above process. Took me 4 minutes from car on ground, to car on stands ready for work.

Tom, at the risk of sounding silly... can you snap some pictures of where exactly you put your jack stands once the car is lifted with a floor jack?

pictures please!!

That video was very helpful - - but I'm still nervous about the placement of a jack stand at the rear area.

Here is another pic of the passenger's side rear. Personally, I'd place the stand under the welded seam (not the flat segment of frame), but probably doesn't matter.

I bet this is all covered in the owners manual, too.

To raise the rear: gadgetman adapter: http://www.corvettegadgetman.com/products3.html

I modified mine to have a round disc that fits inside the jack cup and doesn't have to be bolted down and won't slip. It's the orange circle in the right upper corner of the picture. The thing on the left is something I made to remove U-joints.

I like the circle. Looks like there is more surface area than there is with the gadgetman adapter. I'm just nervous to lift the car so high using an adapter. Don't want the car to slip off the adapter or crack the differential. Is the gadgetman adapter wide/big enough to distribute the weight of the car so there isn't so much weight big pin pointed so to speak? Any opinions on these comments?

I do use a hockey puck now. The wood was when I first got it and I was trying it out.
I have never heard anyone complain here about the Jack A Vette. One nice thing is that I let the company know that they had used the pic of the device that I took when it was lifting my 96 LT4 convertible. I saw it on their ad and recognized the car immediately.
They graciously sent me a refund check for what I paid for it

Great company. That D44 rear end is hefty as it is the same ones the ZR-1s used. I would not worry one bit about it breaking

Well I've been using the Jack-Man-Adapter since I got my 86 Vette Convertible in 2013 and it's worked well once I 'modded' it. The Jack-Man-Adapter is like a piece of I-Beam with a rubber surface on the top that fits between the exhaust pipes and lifts the rear via the Batwing. A hole is drilled in the bottom and comes with a supplied shoulder bolt. You remove the 'cup' on the floor jack and bolt this on it's place. Thing is I have a HF jack that the shoulder bolt supplied didn't fit and I wanted a little more versatility out of it and not have to bolt and unbolt things when switching between the Vette, Van, T-Bird and Truck. I got a couple of circular pieces of 1/2" thick steel (just under 4" diameter IIRC in my case) that fit inside the jack cup, one I counter sunk the hole then bolted it onto the bottom of the Jack-Man-Adapter and the other onto a piece of 1/2" plate that's about 6"-8" square. One fits under the crossmember in front and then this one for under the batwing between the exhaust pipes. When needing to use either one, just set the adapter on the jack, dropping the circular piece of steel into the jack cup and it won't slip or slide off the jack yet is a simple lift-off when you're done. I am thinking about gluing a piece of rubber or something onto the square adapter I made just to make it a little more nonslip.

If some other area needs lifting and needs cushioning, I either use a hockey puck or I have some pieces of 2" oak cut to fit in the jack cup with various slots to fit most anywhere needed.

I've lifted both the front and rear wheels about 7" off the ground without incident so far and both seem very stable while lifting and lowering the car. Only thing I've heard but not experienced is some say things like the doors may bind while lifting, but I have not experienced that.

I have 2 jacks so when I've lifted the car and put it on ramps or jack stands, I'll leave the jack under there as one additional support.

Hope that helps.

I made one by cutting a 4" piece off of a section of 4" I-beam a buddy had laying behind his shop. Bead-blasted it, primed and painted it and it works like a charm.

Good luck... GUSTO

Well I went ahead and ordered the gadget man corvette EZ jack adapter device. I received it about a week later. It worked perfectly. No concerns what so ever jacking up the car. Thank guys for the tips and advice

The front is easy, place the jack underneath the crossmember, and place jacks on the frame along the catalyst converters. The rear is the PITA. the I-beam works great if you have a stock or other cat-back systems. The Corsa has a welded piece of metal there, and I can no longer use it.

Other method: With the right jack, place a piece of wood between the rear monospring bracket, Jack up, and place jacks on the square piece of frame along the emergency brake's cable.

Sorry to dig up this old thread but the gadget mans link or site doesn't have the jack adapter listed and I have found nothing that anyone has made in its place.

Given this is my first full season of owning my '96 I plan on getting under it safely and easily.

Does anyone have another source for a comparable jack adapter for the batwing jack point?

C4s are pretty much worthless. These days I just roll mine over with a fork lift and flip it back over when I am done.

Literally the first thing I did once I found out "gadget man" didn't have them listed.....nothing on Google that doesn't route someone to Corvette Forum to a 10+ year old thread.

Thought someone would have a source for these. Guess it's time to fab something up if these are a bust now
