Noticed the L/R fender behind the wheel , just above the side molding is loose from the backing. It looks as if it is bonded in some way and it has broken loose. The fender only pulls out about a i/2 inch. Can this be glued in some fashon???

Mine has done the same thing on the same side :yesnod: I noticed it about a month ago, but I have not had the time to see what the problem is. Right now I am in the middle of rebuilding my motor. Hopefully someone will chime in and help us out

In the October 2002 edition of Vette magazine it has the same thing with how to repair... :yesnod: Its amazing that you are talking about the same thing that they are writing about. The article is named "Going to the Well" - replacing the Rear Inner Fender Panel on an Early C4.

I think we need pics   If you mean your rear quarter panel ,that seems strange . :D
You can't tell there is a problem by looking at it :nonod: I noticed it one day while washing it, when I put the wash mit on the top half of the L/R qtr. panel it felt soft and the panel would move in about a 1/2 in. There is no screws missing or loose, it feels like something has come unglued

Hey, I just happen to have that issue but I haven't read through it yet. Looks like I have some reading to do tonight

Hey snydcat, when you read the article, let me know what it has to say about the problem. I can see the L / R quarter panel is pulled loose . It appears that I could get some epoxy in there and this may hold. Any other ideas. Oh, it is the rear not gill panel

No problem, anything for a Marylander :yesnod: I grew up in Bladensburg 57th ave, moved to Bowie when I was about 15 yrs. old and my parents still live in Bowie. I will post what I find out sometime tomorrow, I have to dig thru the 50 something car mags underneath my coffee table to find it
Re: Help, what can I do for this problem??????? (snydcat)
The "Going to the Well" article is good if your fender well is destroyed from a tire blow out. But my fender well is in perfect shape with no cracks and all the screws are intact. I swear it feels like something came unglued underneath the top half of L/R qtr. panel . Well HG it looks like we are back to square one. When I get a chance I am going to pull the fender well off and see what I can do, until then anybody else have any suggestions?
Re: Help, what can I do for this problem??????? (snydcat)
Yes it has come unglued........I saw this on an 84 a couple years ago but I didn't get to work on the car so I didn't fix it........... I will ask the autobody instructor next door and see what he has to say..........be back in a few :seeya
Re: Help, what can I do for this problem??????? (vettmech)
OK I'm back............. I asked the autobody instructor and he said they used a 3-M epoxy number 05887 and it's for bonding fiberglass and sheet moulded compunds to the car .........like ours use.........
Hope that helps........oh by the way ......it's two part and requires a special gun like a two tube caulking gun that squeezes both tubes at once......... and it will also have to be VERY clean.............

Is this what you're talking about? I have a slight separation right at the seam (circled area). I checked it out and it seems the bond has come loose. I plan to fix it with fiberglass epoxy.

Hey, thanks for the help. I.m not sure how to get it apart to clean the area. Sounds like a good fall project. Thanks again for the help. HG NOX, that is where it is pulled out, just on the other side.

Yep, but on mine you cannot tell by looking at it.
Re: Help, what can I do for this problem??????? (HG)
You need to make sure that it is very clean or you will do it more than once because it won't stick, or atleast it did't on mine. I'd try taking it to a body shop, if you make an appointment with them the stuff takes like 10 mins. to dry enough to drive it home so you could prob just wait on it. Reason I say take it in is because if you happen to get any on the paint it isn't coming off, atleast very easily, and the guns used to properly mix and apply it aren't cheap from what I've seen.

I was thinking of using fiberglass repair resin or the adhesive bond stuff that Corvette Central sells. I wonder how well two part fiberglass repair resin would work?
