Default That Scanner thing...

I just got an unexpected windfall and want to get a Scanner for use on my '87 C4.
I looked at one after I saw it mentioned here in the forums. A complete setup on Ebay for about $200.00 but I don't remember the nomenclature and can't find the post any more. It was rectangular and colored red and black (dark gray?) and, I think, used interchangeable cartridges for different manufacturers cars.
Can any of you point me at a good scanner?
Thanks

You can use a diagnostic scanner with an '87? Didn't think the earlier ones had a scanner hookup. Or are you talking about this?

I put this in my '96 and operate it from my iPhone. Gives live feed, trouble codes, etc.

Sounds like you were looking at a Snap On mt2500. Make sure it comes with the GM 1 connector and GM cartridges that cover your year.

Black/red sounds like a MT2500 Snap-On - very good equipment for your needs IF it has correct cartridges. A GM/Vetronix TECH1 also very good.

I have a GM/Vetronix TECH1 with all the required cartridges I might consider the sale of. I've a multitude of cartridges including the MASS STORAGE which allows use on multiple vehicles, correct cables are required to use.

OBDI started in 81 or 82. OBDII 96, 95 was a crossover year.

Email sent. Thanks for the responses. I've written down the two scanners mentioned here just in case.
