i just picked up a abandoned 88 vet
the dash/windshield vin num is so rusted it can't be read
where else can I look to find a vin number?
any help will be appreciated!
Pretty sure the Vin is on the side of the engine block aswell, mine was rusted horribly but could still read the vin after closely looking at it under the windshield.

Did you check the sticker on the inside of the driver's side door?
I don't remember on the '88, but it is usually located under the rear compartment storage lids or under the console lid. It should have the vin and also what options were on the car when new.
Sad that it was abandoned, but good luck bringing it back.
Remove the driver's side lower wheelwell panel and the last 8 (maybe 10) digits of the VIN are stamped on the vertical portion of the frame rail just below the battery.
The first eleven digits of the VIN will be common to Corvettes:
1G1YY2 (or 3)18*J5******
1 Country of origin (USA)
G General Motors
1 Chevrolet
YY Corvette
* Body Style- 2 for a Coupe or 3 for a Convertible
1 Manual seat belts
8 Engine Type (L98)
* Check digit and will vary)
J Model year (1988)
5 Bowling Green Assembly Plant
****** sequential build number
I had also heard that the entire VIN is stamped on the top of the frame rail in the passenger side wheel well just forward of the "dog bones" but it would take some disassembly to get to it.
If the car has the original auto trans, the VIN will be stamped on the passenger side of the case just above the fluid pan.
