If it's there and has been applied well you might consider just leaving it alone. Is there a particular reason you want to suffer the aggravation of "restoring" the under-chassis? Is the under coat only on the SMC under-body?

Dependent upon the material used it's very likely a good sound absorption.

Your probably right, it's just not a clean application on suspension components and the like...

I've removed undercoating on a few cars that were going to be all out race cars and it is extremely time consuming and not a easy job.

Like Saud above a putty knife and elbow grease, you call also use a blowtorch to heat the undercoat to make it easier to remove?

Is it on the aluminum suspension components?

Depends on the type of undercoating.

When I lived in Arizona, I had a new S10 that had the factory undercoating. However, Arizona is too hot in the summer and it was melting and dripping off on the garage floor. If it gets tracked into the house (or anywhere) it was a black gooey mess.

I tried several things, but could not get it all off. Finally I found a place that does steam cleaning. It looked similar to a coin operated car wash, but the employee put it up on a hoist and sprayed it from underneath. It cleaned it all off easily in about 10 minutes for about $10.

I don't know if your undercoating is the same type, or if you have anyone that can do this for you, but it worked for me.

Good luck
