Unknown components
While replacing the interior plastic trim panel at the rear glass hatch I noticed two electric components. They were covered with a super sticky black tape. I peeled the tape off and one of the components is a battery. The other one has no markings at all. They are located next to each other to the right of the hatch release and wired together. About 4" x 2" x 2".
They are not part of the antenna. The wires are buried in the wire loom and I could not trace them. I have the factory service manuals but they don't have wiring diagrams.
Don't know how to post pics.
Any ideas?
Look in the FSM 8A-114-10 for a description I believe and check your wire colors using 8A-82-3. If that checks out post back. If it doesn't post back the wire colors!! You said left but I'm quite sure all years was "right" like in this '94 image.

Thanks for the very detailed response. The diode you mentioned is in fact on the right side. However, these components are (were) on the left side.
It seems I'm dealing with some legacy components that no longer function. i.e. car alarm, remote hatch popper, etc.
I removed them and found they are no longer connected to the cars electrical system.
The 12V sealed battery feeds what I believe is a transmitter of some kind. The only output is a single "antenna" wire. I say antenna wire because it has a car antenna connector where it plugs in the unknown box. The only markings on the box are on a bar code label on the bottom.

Googled, no results.
I checked the battery with a DOM and it's dead.
Thanks again.

Look for a LoJack installer in the vicinity and do a drive by for confirmation. LoJack of course never published installation instuctions to the "PUBLIC" as it would have very likely defeated the purpose of the buy and install.
***I'd think this likely and when traded/sold the LoJack removed for refund/resale or moved to the next purchase. There would be no reason to move the components that you mentioned finding.

Thanks for the additional info.
There's LoJack battery packs on eBay I'm sure. Maybe poke around there and see what you find.
Like I mentioned "visit an installer"!!

The battery is the type like used in home alarm systems. 4" x 2" x 2".

Talked to LoJack. You buy their system, they install. No annual service fees. But, one this old they won't transfer. Would need to update. Not worth it for me. Their still just stealing bicycles in my hood.
Thanks again.
Dave.
