I have an 87 base auto coupe that is new to me. And I am new to corvettes. As background I have been using the forum and I find it just full of all the questions I have, and my questions are already answered, but I thought this was just a bit different.
As I look at the headlights the passenger side has been converted to an 88+ motor, I can't tell you what year and it is the headlight that flips ok. I see someone added the module to use the two wire motor on the 88+. I would like to get a motor and frame for the driver side, which does not operate and currently is the 87 style. So my question is about the physical dimensions of the hood line and headlight since I know I also need the frame for that style of motor. For example, would a 1996 headlight assembly, frame, motor etc bolt up to the hood physically and be able to be lined up correctly? I ask because I see people list them differently by year range. I am not worried about the electrical, since I assume I will have to dig in and change connectors etc.
I might post later about my other work trying to get this car on the road, everything was leaking and the car has most of the common problems listed here, but it is complete and original it seems so far other than the headlight :-). Oh and the wheels are updated to a C5 style which does look good in my opinion.
Well, in case anyone is watching, here is what I think happened. A previous owner converted the car to 88+ motors with the module wrapped into the wiring harness using two of the previously needed 3 wires. When I got the car, the passenger side was the 88+ motor and was working but with the clicking of bad bushings. the drivers side had an 87 headlight motor and did not do anything. Someone (guessing here) not know about the change over, got an 87 motor and frame for the car and put it on. It burned out one side of the module relay. Somewhere I had read about someone rewiring an 87 type motor for 2 wire operation, so I tried it. I replaced the relay in the module also. And for sure it is harder to take apart an 88+ motor to get to those bushings. Now, my headlights flip up and down, and what is funny is the rewired 87 headlight motor on the drivers side is just a bit quicker to complete the flip. So I assume all headlights and frames interchange but I am glad I don't need any for the moment.
