started my 94 today but when I opened door interior light didn't come on. thought my battery was dead but it wasn't. then it would come on sometimes and sometimes not. both doors. shouldn't it come on every time? or is there some kind of timer on it or something? it does work if I move the switch on dash to turn them on. I did have the battery out recently. could this of done something?
I ran into something similar today. I was installing roof weatherstrip and when I opened the doors the first time the lights came on. They timed out and went off. I closed the doors to check fit and when I reopened the doors they did not come on. As soon as I turned on the key they came on. Thinking they can lock out to protect the battery.
that's what I was thinking only mine didn't come on the 1st time I opened the door and now just periodicly. hopefully someone will know what our problem is.. mine would not come on even when I turned the key.
There is an ambient light sensor in my 95 and if it is light enough the interior lights won't come on. Could be your problem or not. The sensor is on the dash.

That's the case with my '94 - freak me out at first, but then figured it out.
