I am new to the world of Corvettes. I have been playing with Mustangs. I have a 91 Coupe, and would like to upgrade the exhaust, without spending an arm and a leg. Also I don't want it to sound like an old truck when I am cruising around 65-70. I like to be able to talk with my wife or listen to the Radio.
I have been looking at some of Mid America's Mufflers. There ZR-1 Style and their Stainless Twin tip Targa Style. Anybody have any experience with
any of these?
If your talking about the ZR-1 style tips on the mufflers that look like twin little round glass packs I have them on my 84 that has a true dual exhaust system. The noise will wake the dead and set off car alarms. I'd spend a little more scratch and go with Flowmasters, Corsa, or (Power Effects which are tunable to your taste.) On my ZR-1 I run the Flowmaster catback system it's reasonably quite until you hit 4000 rpm and the secondary injectors come in. Hope this helps 84 CF 91 ZR-1
I haven't seen anyone ever mention the Monza exhaust. I have these on my 85 and after about two years I cut the baffles out of them to give me a true NO MUFFLER system. the ones I used are black with chrome tips in MAD's catalog and when I took the baffles out I took the paint off them and found that they are chrome all the way to the pipes. With the baffles in they were acceptable ........ I wanted it louder though and there's no ugly muffler to look at either.  :seeya
I used to have the exact MAD zr-1 style mufflers you're speaking of on my '91. At that time the exhaust was otherwise stock except for a hollowed main cat. It sounded pretty tame at idle, but had a nice growl during acceleration. Interior resonance wasn't too bad and I eventually got rid of them because I wanted something louder. BTW, the tips looked pretty cool IMHO.
