Took delivery of my 1st 'Vette yestrerday. '93 bright aqua metallic/white interior/white top convertible. 22k miles. Beautiful car. Found out right away that the car it tight, and lights, wipers, A/C etc. work fine. As soon as it was out of the truck, major rainstorm!!! Have been getting lots of rain here in Jacksonville the last couple of days from Isadore. Anyway, was 5 miles from the house and got home ok. Spent the evening reading the owners manual. Damn, trying to understand the security system is a bummer. The same group that designed the Optispark must have designed that too!! Left my keys on the workbench about 5 feet from the car, as I'm still not sure what happens when the system activates. Really didn't want the alarm going off at 10 pm last night if I decided to open the door!! Can anyone explain, in plain, simple terms, how this works? Rain, rain, go away!!!!
My 92 doesn't have the alarm system. It started in 93, but I think the alarm sets when the keys are further away and disarms as you approach with the keys. Other than that it acts as any other alarm. I wouldn't leave the keys near it though, i think there is like a 30 second delay and then the car trys to arm itself but then disarms right away due to the keys being near. That might drain the battery.
Like I said, I don't have first hand exp so don't hold me to that.
  welcome to the forum. You will undoubtedly learn a lot about your Vette and all Vettes on this forum. As I have and am still doing... :)
Congrats I just got my 85 about two weeks ago and love it. Welcome to the forum and I hope you stick around to engulf the wealth of knowledge in here. There is plenty. Dont forget to wave. :seeya  :flag
I believe that when the keys move to about 7-10 feet then the alarm sets and of course the opposite to turn off. That is about how my 94 works. Hope this helps you and by the way, Welcome to the forum. :chevy :)
