Well my son and I are back! We had a great time and the 31 year old Vette did a pretty good job. Reliability and fuel economy was way better than I expected and the C4 seats were very comfortable on a long highway trip. We left NE Ohio and went to Memphis then to BG, KY and the back to NE Ohio.
I think the highlight of Graceland for my son was Presley Motors and the tablet they give you on the guided tour.
In BG he was all about the hotel pool and the plant tour. (Man I had to lie my A$$ off and coach him what to say to get a 7 yr old a plant tour). He was all about watching the Vettes being built and tested.
In just under 1400 mi I used a half qt. of oil and got a nice star on my windshield from a stone we hit hard.
It was a different feeling doing a roadtrip with this car. I kinda got the inspiration from the Roadkill series. I didn't pay a lot of money for this car but i kinda got intimate with it working and going through it the last two months. I noticed the whole time I watched the temp, oil pressure, oil temp, range, and avg. fuel economy like a hawk the entire trip (was kinda fun and i felt like a kid playing).
My wife and parents flipped out when I told them we were taking this car and everyone hated on it (kinda pushed me harder to do it to be honest). My wife said I should take her new Lincoln MKC, my mother said I should take my new Ram 1500 and my dad said I should take my Lincoln Mark VIII, but it was something about buying something cheap going through it and seeing what the old car and myself could do.
I wanted to be able to look back one day and say remember that trip we took in that old Corvette!
Now I wonder if I could pull off a Rt. 66 tour hmmmm?
