Default Air Conditioning Smoken Hot

Car was running, next you know smoke from A/C compressor in front where the belt goes around the pulley, also when this happened the belt tensioner pulley began to move substantially. What to do?

Is there away to test A/C clutch to find out if it is good or bad before going for the A/C compressor cost?

Yes you are right Barking Dogs.....Could be just the coil that pulls the clutch in.....Not that hard to replace

With the mention of smoke coming from the front of the compressor, I would say that the AC clutch is toast. I doubt it's the compressor...but if the clutch is toast, you wont turn the compressor, hence the hot air.

Thanks to all! Belt off pully spins. The part that is stationary also spins. Just orderd new clutch assembly only 70.00 with shipping. I think that should repair the problem. Not sure if I can mention where, but seems to be very fair pricing. Step by step hope to be driving soon. But, several more electric issues to fix.

This has happened to me, but not in my Corvette. your clutch bearings are toast. It doesn't matter if the ac is on or off-- they will smoke and get red hot. If the compressor still cools, you may get by with just a new clutch. Don't drive the car till you get it fixed. Good luck
