if you thought our knock sensors were bad, try a Saturn Vue. Neighbor had his timing belt off for change, also all the parts behind it. Came over last night and asked for help re-aligning the cams. I have a couple Honda Pilots (the Vue has a Pilot engine)
He managed to get the crank and cams turned enough to touch a valve. At that point the only way to align the cams and crank means pulling the rocker assemblies thus closing all valves for clearance. While moving the wiring harness we came across a broken knock sensor.
The thing is under the intake manifold. Air gap intake. can't turn a wrench on it without pulling the intake.

I had an 04 vue redline with the Honda engine. It was a major pain in the *** to work on the engine, but it was super reliable overall. Great on gas, plastic body was great, and gun to drive. Good vehiclss, but they really got creative to fit the engine in. Super PITA to work on.

They build stuff in modules now for ease of assembly line speed. Many things wind up hidden below and behind other things after it's all put together. They don't care about access to anything after it's put together. They just build it as efficiently/cheaply as possible and sell it. They don't give a fat rat's *** if it is tough to work on, it's out their door and not their problem!
