Default C-5 question.

I have a 93 LT1 which I love, and have many speed parts I am about to intall on her. I have it paid for and have been looking for another Vette to use as a daily driver when the 93 is hotted up for drag racing. My question is have any of you fellas driven a C5, and what are your impressions of one compared to a C4. I have a chance to pick up a very nice C5 from a friend of a friend. He has a z06 ordered, and I can buy his 98 for a real nice price. He lives about 7 hours away, so I have never driven the car, or even seen it. I didnt ask this on the C5 forum, cuz I figured all the C5 owners over there would say they were way better because they owned one so, I was hoping for opinions from fellow C4 owners. Any input would be appreciated.

I drove a 2000. To be honest The only thing I remember is that it rode stiffer. Seemed more rigid. I didn't hammer it or anything, like I do mine, but it did feel nice. I like the fact that my car sorta wraps around me as opposed to just sitting in it. If I ever get past that and the fact the C5's have such a big a**, I may someday own one. :yesnod:

My roommate has a 2000, I drive it from time to time...it's a really nice ride and has some features I would like on my C4...
-HUD
-telescoping steering wheel
-memory package

Nothing major mind you, just some nice things. All that aside it would be hard for me to pick one if I had to...I've driven mine cross-country more times than I can count and I never got uncomfortable once. I like the interior of the C4 better in some places (we actually have cup holders that work!). The C5 has a little more cargo room...but not much. The C5 would be better for passengers (but who really cares about them? :p: ) I guess, in my opinion, it comes down to which you would LIKE more because they are both great cars with lots of things going for each of them. Take one for a drive and decide for yourself it's the only way you're REALLY going to answer the question for yourself.

I drove a C5 when my brother was looking at them (2000). Drive a 6 speed coupe and an auto. convert. My impression (and I did drivre them kinda hard since the Chev. dealer was the owner) was that they were a little too "smooth". I mean I am used to my rough rattly loud 84 and althought the speed was nice and it made you feel almost invincible, it was too tight for my taste. I certainly wouldn't turn one down but I wouldn't want to lay out a whole lot more money for a C5 than say a 96 C4.

I've got one of each. I love my '93, but the C5 is a better car. Quieter, yet stiffer. Very little body flex. Faster. Etc. Drive one. You'll really like it.

Miss that clamshell hood, though. Makes cleaning the wheelwells a PITA without it.

I wouldn't say they "suck", and I don't believe many here really believe that. IMO they are completely different cars ---> ride, feel, looks, etc. Its a common question c4ers ask themselves "should I trade/buy a newer (different) vette?" You'll be asking yourself that question and see it posted in the C5 section in 2005. :smash:

Agreed. They are different cars, one is no less a Corvette than the other. I happen to love ALL Vettes.

If the C6 doesn't look like azz I might buy one otherwise I'll add a S/C onto my '01 or add a sweet mid 90's C4 to the stable.

Not the car...but the driver/owner sometimes is in question. Most C4 guys care less that I own a '84. I usually get a :troll response from most C5 guys when I tell them what I drive. But as evidenced by Nathan's thread in the C5 General section, the C5 guys here are enthusiast and a part of the family
