Default Aftermarket R4 Compressor - Scroll Design ???

While looking for a new R4 Compressor, I found an aftermarket company making an R4 but in a Scroll design! No Pistons. I would think the Scroll type with less moving part would me more reliable. They are on eBay and Amazon. The pulley is smaller than typical R4 use spin the Scroll faster I assume.

This eBay listing clearly states its a Scroll. If you look at the inner Aluminum Case, it is completely different. It does not have the 4 bolts that holds the front cover.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

No experience, but the "made in China" on the label would scare me away. The R4 was a very durable design.

The scroll compressor design has completely replaced piston compressors in the small tonnage air conditioning market. Interesting to see it in an automotive application!

I went with a NEW AC delco assembly (w/ clutch) -- $167 is hard to beat. pretty much, plug and play and no guess work. it's been on the car for about 1.5 years, and around 7K miles - no issues -

IMO, a no brainer -

The word "universal" always scares me too.

I do find it very interesting that this company went out of the way and decided to re-engineer the R4 instead of cloning it.

Here is the back picture of the compressor. It appears that it is a small scroll housed in same case. I am sure there are no large o-ring under the black steel case which has been leak issues with the original R4. The AC Delco R4 are now made by Four Seasons.

Looking at what is on my car now compared to that picture, I don't see how in the world that thing would ever fit a C4. Mounts are completely different and the inlet & outlet connectors face the rear instead of the top facing forward. Looks like a nightmare to adapt if it could even be done at all.

I'm guessing you have a newer C4 that doesn't have an R4.
