I bought a set of factory speakers at a swap meet for my 84. I was told they work. the original speakers in my car were changed to aftermarket ones by the previous owner. is there a way I can test these speakers to know if they are good or not. just hooking them up to a radio hasn't worked. is there an article or site I can look at to help?
If they are just bare speakers (no electronics) you can test them with a 1.5V battery. Connecting it one way (+ to +) will make the cone go out a bit and reversing it will make the cone go in a bit.
I do not know if the color code for 84 is the same as for my 92, but the orange wire is +12V, black wire is negative/ground and other two wires are the low level input on mine.

4 wires/terminals; One +12V and one ground to power the inherent (Bose) amplifier. The remaining two are signal wires/terminals - to which the 1.5V battery trick can be used to test operation. (Holding one wire with your thumb firmly against the battery and brushing the other wire across the other end of the battery should produce a scratching sound from the speaker.)
Just to add, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you click "Dr Don", you can arrange to have them repaired professionally, if need be.

OR you can power up the amp w/12v & ground as described above, then run the other two wires to the male pin and outer part of an RCA cable that is connected to a music source. Think of those other two wires AS and RCA cable...just not configured w/an RCA end on 'em. Anyway, hooked to 12v power and ground, then to an RCA music source, the speaker should play beautiful, "stereo everywhere" Bose music!
