I haven't tried it, but there is no way I'd leave oil in a car that's used, even sporadically, for a year.
There really isn't a wrong answer to the type of synthetic oil to use as they all have such great properties to have them last far longer (without turning to sludge) than conventional non-synthetic oil. I've personally been using Castrol Synthetic for nearly 30 years and while I used to change every 3000, I'm now going closer to 5000 (on my daily drivers) simply because of cost.
Everyone will have an opinion. I have always used Mobil 1 in all my new and/or nice cars. On my beater cars over the years that I run conventional oil, I find pensoil to be great.

True but a used oil analysis removes all doubt and guesswork.
BEST SYNTHETIC TO RUN IN A 1984 CORVETTE WITH 81,000 ,MILES ON IT.Has anyone tried out the new Mobil one that allows you to run the oil for one year.
well, here we go again. to answer your question, any, quality name brand, synthetic meeting current SN specs will suffice. don't know much about mobil 1 annual protection, but IMO, depends on how many miles you are putting on that 84 in a year. my understanding it's pricier than the regular mobil 1 synthetics. I personally use the high mileage mobil 1 in my 85 (161K miles). I drive approximately 6K per year, and change at the 3K mark. if you time things right, in May, mobile has a rebate program - $12 on a 5 quart jug. if you buy at wal-mart, you'll end up paying around $12 for the oil. at that price, it allows you to go with a premium filter, so you're in at around $20 for the oil change using top shelf stuff. I buy two 5-quart jugs, so i'm good for the year. this may stir up things, but some folks may step in about additives or higher zinc content oils. personally, I don't buy into it for a stock, street driven, flat tappet small block, but to each his own. if it were my 84, mobil 1 high mileage 10W30 synthetic, change at the 3K mark, and don't put a lot of thought into it.
I am interested in this because I'm having trouble finding the weight I want. What are you using?
Currently using Mobil One 5 / 30 . I was asking this question because the 84s run so Damn hot oil Temp. gets to 240 at times. I guess at my old age that number scares me

240° is getting up there, but is that dashboard indicated, and are you running the factory oil cooler? running that hot, i'd still go with M1 10W30, 10W40, or cjunkie's favorite, 0w40.
It is true, any name brand synthetic oil will work fine. Synthetics handle high temperatures better than conventional oils and generally last longer (all things being equal).
High mileage variety would be a good idea, they have more of the zinc and other high pressure friction fighters needed in the flat tappet valvetrains. (80,000 is not high mileage unless they were done 1/4 mile at a time -- these motors last a long time if taken care of.)
For the weight, keep it between a 5w30 and 10w40 or anywhere in between. The Mobil 1 0w40 suggested by Cjunkie is an excellent oil (European spec) although I don't think it's available in high mileage variety.
The annual one costs way more than regular so before I pay double I'd like to see what I get. I'm still driving it so next year we should know by spring

Very true. Though I never sent out oil for analysis, 5 years ago I had a 91 s10 with 185k on it. It had a sticky lifter on cold days. I bought castrol on sale one time and the valve train was so much louder and that lifter made noise for a longer amount of time. Went back to pensoil and it everything was so much better. With that said, all my vehicles currently get Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 extended performance. (wichever is on sale at Auto Zone)
I change the oil in the vette every 3k, but go to 4 to 5k on my Silverado and wife's Traverse.
