I removed the lower pad under the instrument cluster to access wiring. After removing the three screws across the area closest to the seat the panel fell down. The PO had rigged the attachment near the firewall with a nut that does not fit properly on the stud. Evidently it is a SAE nut on a metric stud. What kind of attachment is supposed to be here. There is a square hole in the pad that is approximately 1/2" x 1/2". The stud is close to 1/4" (not sure of metric size).

There should be a thin washer type nut that just pushes on and off of the stud. Its not actually a nut that spins on and off... I dont know what the type of nut is called....

I guess I will have to try a salvage yard. Dino's Corvette is only about 25 miles from where I live.
No one wants to mention year - I believe I've seen you mention '88?
I don't have an '89 or earlier but maybe someone with will mention/check the fastener in the A break-out. If this isn't the panel mention it's NOT and I'll just DELETE the post.

Sorry for leaving out that I have an 88. That is indeed the panel I am talking about.
