Default corvette update

corvettes going under the knife in the next month

insurance is covering a complete new paintjob

figured people would like to see the process. hard to believe how faded the paint is. under the emblem was a really bright red compared to how the hood looked.

thus far, the doors are basically getting rebuilt. internals and the window sweeps and pads.

awaiting on some new door seals and some of that black trim that goes around the middle of the car. the stuff at the back just spins inside.

ill be taking care of the driveline this winter all new ujoints, fix a brake squeak. new umbrella seals in the motor to help stop the blue smoke on startup.

ill post some more pics as i get some if people are into see this process

Wow. Major project. Assuming your going with the original red? Never heard the term umbrella seal. Is that the same as valve stem seal?

yes the original red is the plan i dont think i have much choice with insurance lol. it will be way brighter, if i get back to the shop ill get a pic from where they took the emblem off.

ill try to find a picture of the seals, we use them on the racecar as the heat doesnt kill them like it does to the white plastic like seals.

i may be using the wrong term for it but we had some left so going to see if that helps the smoke issue on cold start

How did you get the insurance to cover a paint job? I don't recall previous threads in your corvette update. But I'm excited for your ride, it's gonna look awesome!

Side note: I'm not sure about the early C4 wheels, but your front tires are directional and mounted backward.

Yeah how did you get your insurance to spring for the paint job?

ill answer the questions as best i can.

tires they had taken them off at some point and apparently put them on backwards (not my doing)

as for insurance coverage, with all the fires we had in BC this summer i was away for a weekend and we had a major amount of ash fall and then it rained. it basically ate the clear coat on the car, some spots turned almost pink while others had black specs all through it. the car was very close to being a write off but i am very glad they decided to go through with this. cant wait to have her back in a while. i told the shop no rush on it since its uninsured for this time of year. it can stay in their shop until its done

title name i shoulda changed more of a start of a rebuild :P

thus far they are rebuilding most of the door internals as im supplying the parts (they have to take them apart anyways so new parts are going in)

ive had to buy a couple trim pieces (those black ones that run down the middle of the car) the nut and bolt are just spinning and you cant exactly access them so ive had to buy a couple of those.

ive got a pic of where the emblem was on the hood so you can see how much it has faded over the years. will post that later.

That’s pretty common. The nuts rust onto the bolt and the bolt just spins in the trim. They have to be cautious when reinstalling the new ones. If they tighten them too much you will get dimples in the black trim.

The forrest fire is a shame. Not only because of the property damage but also because it’s so beautiful there.

Yeah it was a bad summer all those fires were anywhere from 1 hr to 3hrs away from me for the most part. My city took on a huge amount of evacuees.

Side note here is a picture of where the emblem was. Original color to the faded color

Some updates. I have taken the gfx home to get the oldman to fiberglass (shop wants way to much to fox and paint them) also heres some pics. The spots sanded are areas that were not perfect before so they are fixing it properly. Should have gfx fixed in 2 weeks. And hopefully paint will happen by the new year (i told them no rush on the car since winter is here and this way it stays in a noce heated shop
