I've used it locally. It was not able to do a multi state trip well. It reroutes ok based on accidents, high traffic etc, based on I think other user inputs. You need to watch it, sometimes it tries short cuts you might not want. Sometimes the routes are creative and interesting, and it has helped me avoid the local highway slowdowns with options. I like the mph, I was using it while my dash was out :-) I have heard that Google bought them.
Much prefer standalone Garmin with lifetime traffic and maps with voice response. No data charges, either. $90 for a factory refurb and larger screen; easily found.
I've used Waze for years. Yes, Google bought them. Even the voice is now the same between the two. As mentioned above, it's no good for multi stop trips past your local area and lately, it can't even plot a trip past 800 - 1,000 miles. I just use Google for anything beyond say 500 miles.
My biggest gripe since Google took over is when it gives you distance to turn. Waze will go from "turn left in one mile" to "turn left now" in under a half mile. Seems any distance it gives for a mile or less is a crap shoot. honnestly, if I hadn't been using it for years, I probably wouldn't. Must say the Police notifications and the rerouting feature have saved my bacon a few times. lately I've had rerouting go through parking lots and service roads. Once in Arizona, on the way back with the Vette, it took us through an industrial area to a dirt road!! yeah, that didn't turn out well. 15 minutes to back track from that dirt road.
I have it for the sole purpose of the long car rides. I live about 2 hours from my parents and see them around different holidays. Waze just helps me avoid the speed traps and accidents so I can drive without worry.

I use it often. The Bay Area sometimes has horrible traffic and Waze usually gives the driver a heads up and alternative route options. Sometimes, however, Waze will pick the stupidest routes through neighborhoods almost going in circles.
I use it often and like it. Most of the reroutes around traffic etc are very good. Also like how users point out where police are. It’s a very handy gps that works well anywhere you go. Use it with some common sense and you will enjoy it.
I use it and like it, mostly because of the real-time re-routing it does. Once on a business trip it routed me through a residential area. When I got to the main road it was because of construction going on. It does eat your battery as Steve59 mentioned; I plug my phone in whenever I use it just to be safe.
Here in California works GREAT. We have thousands of people driving within a square mile and I'd say 40% of them use it. I always get cops, cars on the shoulder, traffic and accident notifications.
I used it on other places and as long there are other people reporting, it works great. It is also a great navigator.
I use it often, and the cop warnings are especially useful for highway trips. At some point you have to just trust it when it plots a route.
I don't really find it all that useful in daily commuting, except to occasionally check how bad traffic is going to be on the way home, because it will route me through several subdivisions and a couple left-hand turns that are hairy to make on a busy road.
It seems like there is two variations of opinion here.
The first is Waze is great for helping with advanced notice of police. The second is its just ok as a navigation app.
