I've owned three C4s. I purchased one that had a remanufactured PCM, and another one developed a problem with the PCM and needed to be replaced. So, from my POV, it's common

Someone mentioned "VSS Buffer". While the VSS buffer was a common component in many GM vehicles in the late 80's and 90's (particularly trucks), the C4 never used one. The 84-89 has the VSS buffer contained within the cluster. The 90-96 is contained within the PCM.

I couldn't remember if the car had a vss buffer, or not, or what the deal was. The best mechanics don't try to memorize specific details about circuits, or specifications, or trouble codes or anything along those lines. Instead, they remember where the service manual is.
