Default Smog pump

Not getting a lot of hits on my other post so thought I’d start one on the right topic. It appears as if it’s my smog pump making the noise. Will gutting it fix that noise or do i need to replace it or can i just eliminate it?

Seems like most people eliminate it. I don't think you can even get a replacement, much less one that's going to work right.

Do i just remove it and get a shorter belt, if so what size? I need to get this noise gone ASAP.

I'm not really the expert on that. Certainly you will need a different belt. I think different people have been dealing with that issue differently. If you find a great way to handle it, then update everyone.

I gutted mine a few years back to eliminate the noise. Not a hard job. I have since supercharged the car and no longer use the pump.

Still have the gutted pump? I heard it’s difficult to pull apart and gut.

IDK. Last time I tried, I thought it wouldn't be able to be done without removing the AC also.

That is ASAP.

I am pretty sure I still have it. I don't throw away any parts these days.

What would you take for it?

I assume you just need the pump and not the pulley.

I could take the pulley off my pump but if you have it all together, What’s the price on the set? Would make install easy.

Fyi
I bought a refurbished pump because I thought mine was making noise.
The new one ran smooth. But I all had a noise.
Turns out the alternator was failing and made a similar noise.
The alternator failed on me at midnight gong home. It was a bad night. New alt no noise.

They are right next to each other.
Piece of advice. Check all options.

Btw gutting the pump is easy. If you know how to take something apart and put it back together.
I did mine with a torch. The enternals are plastic.

I tried to open my 85 smog pump and I could not fix the bearing, I bought a new smog pump and it is working after 1 yr. Don't know what year you have but you should be able to get one still.

How much? Also it means that you have more hoses to work with

If you are needing a smog car that isn't too bad. Glad I don't live in a state that I need that or my EGR or charcoal canister.
