Default 1990 upper ball joint sizes?

Aloha,

I'm upgrading my upper & lower ball joints on my 1990 Vette. The lower ones went in okay, tight but could have been the press.

The upper ones I have are a smaller diameter? Has anyone ran into this? I have searched the net but have not ran across this subject except for someone stating they received too large of diameter ones? Notice the space between the ball joint and arm housing.

Any insight would be helpful.
Anyone who needs the smaller ones let me know, I can't return these lol.
Thanks.

My '90 got some ebay ones. My car needed to be ground out to fit. IDK though, my car is not a show car, and they work.

Mine came big.

as i remember, the top joints were not a press fit like the lowers. in fact if you threw them at the arm from 10 feet away they would fall in place. its the four bolts that locate the ball joints.

Brand and part#? Bought from who?

Take your question to the manufacturer. Regardless of brand, the size and taper of the actual stud needs to be confirmed. Measure your removed and the new to confirm diameters and the fit in the spindle.

Does a local NAPA or auto parts store have one on the shelf to compare? A quick check of NAPA it appears they have maybe a premium and lesser priced option.

At some point manufacturer of yours determined that the 'ball/socket' could be reduced and likely used a more popular arrangement to produce theirs.

WVZR-1, I looked into that idea, unfortunately NAPA, Oreilies, and Auto Zone do not have any on Island. They all started they have to be special ordered and I would have to pay for shipping. Yeah pretty standard in Hawaii.

I measured the i.d. of the A arm and got 1 53/64", then I measured the o.d.of the ball joint I have it is 1 9/16"
So it about 17/64" different.

Has anyone who have changed upper ball joints ran into this? Is there a sleeve a missed on the old ones? (Checking Monday)
My Ball Joints I have say PN: BAW M45-BA (got off bottom, had them too long not sure where I bought them)

Does anyone have a set of uppers and can measure the o.d?

Thanks for any info
