The gears are not the issue its the pellets that turn to dust. I would just replace with nylon gears when you replace the pellets.
my 94 had 1 gear a little worn, plus I ordered the entire kit as I wasn't sure what was needed. on my 92 I ordered the pellets only. should be here tomorrow
Both of my gears look perfectly fine, so I’ll just be replacing the pallets. I ordered a set this afternoon, so hopefully they’re here in a few days time.

I think that sometimes though the gears may also be a problem particularly if a PO has replaced the original OEM Plastic shell, Plastic lens headlights with the "relatively" much heavier (albeit much brighter ) glass sealed beams. So if you have the heavy glass headlights you may want to consider upgrading the gears as well. Just something to consider.
That's a known problem with those motors, when I have my C4 in 23 years replaced them 3 times.
Those pellets should be outlawed. I pulled my motors for pm check, no pellets here. PO replaced the motors, which has a C5 design with rubber bumper. all set.
My lights are starting to act up also. They still go up and down but are starting to ,bump bump bump bump when they park or even when I just have the driving/parking lights on and then turn them off. Has any one come up with a home grown replacement for the pellets?
Well I think its clear why my headlights stopped functioning...
What would the recommendation be as far as choosing between a brass replacement, or nylon?
And any recommended vendor to order these from (i'm in Canada)?
Quick question: I have a 96, low miles and garage kept. Do you think the failure of the pellets is a time or use factor? Is every 96 pellets starting to fail?
Mine is a 90 with 17000 miles, always garage kept, and that was the result when I opened the motors up the other day. Others can chime in, but I think it’s more time that causes them to break down.
