Ok so I tried to avoid posting as I know reoccurring post can be annoying. I search on the boards as much as I could for help in locating the knock sensor on an 86. One day she was running fine and then the next I get a check engine code 43. I want to check the sensor to see if it maybe became unplugged somehow but am having a hard time locating it. Thanks.
Ok thanks. So I am guessing it can only be accessed from underneath the car. I have tried reaching down through the top and cannot get to it.
Correct. And I believe it has to be right at 14lb/ft for proper operation.
Also, if you remove it, be prepared to catch the coolant that comes out... might as well do the block coolant flush while youre at it. Theres a pipe plug on the opposite side between 3 & 5... then you can get all the coolant out of the block.. Youll be surprised how much crap settles at the bottom of the block...

Awesome. Thanks for the tip. Very good info. Now I just have to work up the nerve to raise it up with a floor jack. I have done research on it and there are so many different techniques people use, I am not sure which one is the safest way for me and for the car.
the knock sensor is extremely gushy and u want to remove as little as possible from the ks hole.
Why would he want to remove as little as possible from the KS bore? If he does do the coolant flush, he will want both bores the KS one and the pipe plug one opened anyway while running clean garden hose water through the radiator fill neck until it runs clear.... Keep everything open and let it all run out, refill with Green Glycol and distilled water.... done deal...
