I know this will upset a lot of people, but should I ever have to change another bulb I will figure some way to attach the lens with 2 screws from the outside. My car will never be subject to a "concourse" type inspection and I doubt if any one else will ever even notice it.
Mine is far from being a concourse type show car, that's why I didn't mind taking the Sawzall to the back bumper brace...
Well, I did my 85 today and can say it wasn't a piece of cake. I ended up using my Sawzall to cut a bracket so I could get my arm in there. Even at that I had to get mad enough to ram my arm up far enough to loosen the cap from the light. It did appear to have a squeeze thing on the side of the cap but didn't seem to work so I just ripped it off but don't think I damaged anything. The thing slipped out of my hand and I couldn't find it for several minutes. I ended up using a 2057 bulb because my 1157 bulbs looked kinda cruddy although they were new. I finally got the bulb in and pushed the cap into the light but don't know how secure it is.
If I ever have to do this again I believe I'll take my little saw and cut a hole in the fender and reach in from there...bodywork is a lot easier for me than crawling around under the car for about an hour...It's easy to re-paint a rear fender if necessary..
Forgot to mention, I also had to take the exhaust off that side in order to reach inside the bumper...
I found a skinny kid for my 85....took him 10 minutes....
I also found a skinny young guy to reach mine the first time using the remove the licence plate, reversing light etc method because my arms were just too flaming big to reach them.
The second time I worked out it was easier to drop the muffler which gave me all the room I needed.
The only way to reach the lens housing is the way you have or through the side rear quarter panel. Only a small child's arm would be small enough to reach the outside lens. I believe it does turn clock wise. See if you can spray some silicone up there. Try from the outside. This is not and easy fix as some make it out to be. The engineers who designed the C4 never though about the poor slobs who have to repair them.
The engineers don't care about those things. They design and build them and get them out the door...
