Default I dodged a bullet with a non-functional transmission.

Hey everyone,

So a couple weeks ago I was driving my corvette (88' 4+3) and went to shift from second to third gear and the shifter moved but the trans was stuck in second.

I've broken a shift fork in the trans before so I was concerned about that, although this was not at WOT, just cruising. I did at least manage to get home without any trouble with it in second gear the whole time.

I put off dealing with it for a couple weeks for fear of what I might find and because I was busy.

I figured it was either shift linkage or something internal to the trans.

Anyway I finally jacked the car up and had a look today and I got lucky and it was just a cotter pin/clip thay had fallen out and let one of the shifter rods disconnect. Reconnected it, did a short test drive and all is well

I was sort of expecting I might be having an expensive trans repair/rebuild but thankfully this time it was a free repair, that almost never happens!

Nice ... glad it was an easy fix.

Thanks guys, I'm super glad it was a simple fix.

Now I can move on to do the winter projects I had planned for the car.

Congrats on finding the fix quick and easy. I have to fix my heater in my car, we are below freezing now (32 deg's F or 0 C) for extended times. I still want to drive the car, but then again with 10-20cms of snow tomorrow. Might be a distant dream to drive the car again this year.
