Default Gear Shift Indicator

The gear shift position indicator (auto trans) on my 1990 L98 isn't working. The indicator is at the bottom and doesn't move when the shifter is put into drive, reverse, etc. Hopefully it has just come loose and not broken. My questions are, is this a difficult thing to remove the cover to access the indicator? Is there anything under there thats going to fall off creating another problem?
I've looked through the FSM and can't find a good diagram that shows the removal of the cover.

Thanks

Probably the plastic broke. It isnt hard to get in there, just start removing screws on both sides of the cover. Replacements are available online. I would write more but the buttons on my phone are too small.

Follow these instructions and you will be able to lift up the console and see how the plastic tab sits on the shifter pin. Just a few screws.

- follow the instructions in the above post. it's basically a "pin and slot" thing. once you get in there, you'll see how things go together. chances are, the plastic indicator needle is not broke, but, for whatever reason, assembled incorrectly. if by some chance you find the indicator needle broken, PM me - I have a stash of spare parts from C4 console teardowns. i'm sure I have a half dozen of these things laying around. you're welcome to one - cover the postage, and it's yours. again, chances are it's just an assembly snafu. good luck on the repair.

Joe C, finally got a chance to take a look at the shift indicator. It wasn't broken but somehow had slipped off the pin. Put it back in place and seems to be fine. Thank you so much for the offer of another needle. Much appreciated!
