Default What Will Your Winter C4 Project Be?

Mine is to finish the rest of the front end bushings and replace both electric seat tracks. So what kind of quality time will you and your C4 spend together this winter?

Well I would say my "winter project" is to buy another one. But I am not rushing that. Gotta find the right car. But if I get one before, or during winter: zf6 fluid change, oil change, and see what other things the car will need. And exhaust if I have enough coin.

New speakers since a couple of mine don't sound right.
New higher output headlamps.
Repair the AC controller. (Currently directs air at the heater and defroster. I believe it has the collapsed rubber cone connectors in it)
New tires. Hopefully with some new wheels if I can find the right ones at a good price.

And hopefully some no salt roads to drive it some. Maybe a trip or two.

Winter here in South Mississippi isn't a problem but I am getting ready to pull the auto trans due to a front seal leak after a charity cruise in November. Going to have the trans rebuilt to be on safe side. My Quick-jack is being delivered today which should make life easier.

Cam swap and new clutch IF we are in a new house by then. If not then the Vette will sit dormant in its temporary garage where there is no space to work.

Doing new tires this weekend, had my guage cluster, and center section plastics media blasted, ordering 3M DiNOC Vinyl Carbon Fiber Wrap to wrap the said plastics in, and more than likely weather stripping on the to do list over the winter, though I also need to send the Targa top off to corvette tops to have new lexan installed, address the driver seat track, power antenna, though the list is getting shorter, more stuff keeps getting added too it.

New audio, replace suspension bushings, lower seats (custom brackets). Then I'm done, unless something breaks, then I'm on to the next thing.

I purchased a low mileage unabused 3.07 rear for my 86 convertible automatic, so I'm going to combine swapping that in with replacing all of the rear suspension bushings with poly. Looking forward to the new ratio as I hate the stock rear end on some of the local roads as it puts the engine down in the 1200-1300 range in overdrive. Blech!

If I get time, I will also pull the seats and dash and redo all of the seals on the HVAC system. It's working fine, but due to age, it's blowing small pieces of rotted foam out the vents every once in a while. Good time to re-dye the dash as well.

Figure out some way to make the gas pedal easier to push without needing a Popeye leg.

Steve at C&S Corvettes here. We offer C4 suspension bushings in a synthetic elastomer material. Made for us by SuperPro from Australia. They are the largest performance bushing manufacturer in the world. Pliable, 1 piece, and won't squeak. Contact me if you would like more info. Thanks, Steve

Now that I have a nice big and heated space (!!): headlight puck replacement and hopefully taking it for a drive on clean roads once in a while.

I have to get my knee fixed first, then the '96 will get worked on (the doc thinks the meniscus is torn, will find out Monday), but for the Vette:

1. Finish a complete overhaul of the Dana 44 I purchased. New bearings, seals, posi-clutches, batwing bushings etc. I am going to stick the ends of the stub shafts in EvapoRust, then paint them. I will finish cleaning the case and batwing down to bright metal, then they will get painted with Eastwood's bare metal clear. Might wait till spring to paint.

I tried to find new stub shafts, but there are none out there and if I do find a pair, they are probably going to be expensive. It doesn't need them, but since I am doing the car to a particular level of finish, I would have liked to have them.

I will be finishing cleaning the C-beam, drive and halfshafts and painting them with the clear also. They will get new u-joints installed.

2. Put in the Banski rear suspension, new Bilsteins and sway bar bushings. I also have the Banski pin top shock mounts. 36 years ago I made a similar set out of Teflon and stainless for the '65 I had. Needless to say, they work great.

https://www.banskimotorsports.com/pi...ck-mounts.html

3. I too have to fix the HVAC issue. Same old 1996 issue as discussed above.

4. Then in the spring, the real fun begins. I have a set of Del-alum front bushings to install along with the new shocks up front and maybe new wheel bearings. There is a vibration in the front end. I have a feeling sitting for 10 yrs may have hurt the bearings.

After this the engine gets worked on. If I decide to put in a stroker crank, I can get away with a simple hone, the engine (actually car) is low mileage. I have a set of heads to send to LLoyd Elliot to have ported and 2.00 valves put in. I have 1.6 RR, a Hot Cam, headers, new timing chain, new Opti, MSD 6AL box, coil and wires. After I sell a couple more of my other toys, (hunting is no longer viable when you can't walk well) I am getting a set of 30lb Bosch 3's.

It might take me all winter, spring and summer, but when it is done, it will be a reasonably lively cruising machine. I am building it for the long drives in the country, and overall driving pleasure. I bought a 3.07 D44 to stay with the current 3.07 ratio (the D36 will get sold). 3.07's are great for driving. I have no plans for any kind of racing with it, so they are fine.

Putting all new Poly bushing on the car as the old rubber ones are in poor condition, along with new ball joints. Hopefully, weather will be of and I can go thru the Brake system as well. I just got it out of the paint shop so time to work under the car,

Happy searching! The hunt is 1/2 the fun imo.
