Default Sinking shift indicator fix

When I bought my '96, the shift indicator panel that is screwed to the underside of the console was floating loose. Worked fine, but flopped around a bit. On removal I discovered the reason: broken plastic studs with metal tips for the screws.

I used drywall screw parts and plastic epoxy to recreate a new place to affix the screws.

It's a small thing, but in my case the loose panel was wearing a short into the wires for the lighting and my dash lights were blowing a fuse.

If your display droops, it's a pretty easy fix.

Measure carefully and cut to the desired depth.

It's what they had at autozone.

The epoxy sets up creme colored

After...

It's what I had in the pantry.

Found a short in the lighting circuit ?
Electrical work doesn't get much more difficult than that.
Well done.

Thanks. It was pretty obvious where the pinch was occurring. Obvious is right up my alley.

Judging by the crickets chirping softly, I guess I'm the only one with a sagging indicator. Or are folks just buying a whole new console cover? That would address the Dulso issue as well. I'm not replacing anything I can repair on this old chevy.

Anyway, so far the epoxy is working much better than the hot glue I tried before.

Please do not sell yourself short. I just had the same problem in my 96. I used your method and it worked great. I did come to the conclusion the rear broke just like yours after the front screw fell out. Thanks, Dan

Nice. Glad to read it worked for you too.

Such little "fixes" are part of the fun of ownership, IMO.
