Having replaced the faulty power unit already with a fixed height antenna, I found this little jewel on ebay. I think the color match is pretty close too. So far the reception seems good too.

All is good here. Looks like you're staying busy! Took the SS out for a final rip tonight and topped off the tank. Did the same with the 86 the other day. Snow for the next couple days so they'll likely throw a ton of salt down and the roads will be crap for the next 5 months.
Where did the summer go?
Have a Happy Thanksgiving Dave!

Doesn't it compromise reception at under 5 inches? The wife's Spyder had a shorter antenna and it wasn't good even on the driveway. Switched to a longer antenna and we pick up much more inside the garage.

I'll give an honest update after I have an opportunity to test it out. I live in a rural area so my fingers are crossed. If it fails, I'll put back the 31" mast.

Any way you can run them back to back? IOW find a sucky reception area and put the big one on to see if it clears up?

I just installed the shorty and tried it out with the car in the garage. I have the 31" mast inside the car and can swap it out next time I take a cruise. Not sure when because we're expecting some snow and rain in the coming days, but I will update when the time comes. Reception around where I live is spotty, but there are a few stations that are always very strong, so I'll be able to tell once I get out there.

I like it, I may do the same. My power Antenna finally **** the bed. I haven't even bothered with it because all I use is Pandora, Google, and Spotify. Almost no need for FM radio anymore.

Same reason I swapped mine out. Just didn't want to incur the expense to repair/replace the unreliable GM power unit. I followed another member's post on installing a shorty antenna. The swap didn't take long and I was pleased with the end result. The red stubby was an afterthought and a cheap ebay find. I think it looks good. Not sure how the reception will be as I have yet to test it on the road. Snowed in here in NY!

Looks like about the same here. Not sure if it's still snowing! School will most likely be closed tomorrow, so no rush for me to clean it up. I'm ready though. Snowblower clear, got a new pair of insulated coveralls and boots. I might have to put a big block on my snowblower now! LOL

I saw no difference in reception or sound quality and NO static!
