My electronic climate control has recently stopped working. It went from being a little glitchy to useless. It would display what the temp is set to inside the car, then show the outside temp and not switch back. The buttons were unresponsive. I took it out, disassembled and cleaned it, as I saw described on a popular post in this forum, with a soft eraser. This made the buttons work, but the problem is still there. It seems to "time out" after about 30 seconds. So I turn the car on, can set the ECC to whatever I want, all the lights work and it seems to start working, then after about 30 seconds, it becomes unresponsive again and the fan speed will drop. The settings default to blowing cold air on my feet and out the defrost, which has been hard to live with as we get into winter. It also causes the AC compressor to cycle on/off about every 10 seconds, which cant be good for the compressor clutch.
I saw on another post that a possible fix could be getting a new wiring harness for the ECC and replacing my current one. I have an aftermarket head unit, so is it possible that something else was damaged during the install? I didn't seem to find another post with these same issues, so I hope yall can help me resolve it. It has been really cold with no heat.
Any suggestions? Since last post, I've pulled the fuse for the AC compressor so it isnt constantly cycling on and off.
if the compressor is constantly cycling, the system is low on refrigerant. Find the leak, repair it and recharge the system. I’ll bet dollars to donuts that fixes it. Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've seen the Batee website and the ChrisFix video. Before my ECC was completely unresponsive, I was able to check for codes and there were none. Jmeyer58, I was worried that an issue with the ECC unit was causing the compressor to constantly cycle, but if what you say is true, then thats not the case. I'll recharge it, clean the ECC contacts again and maybe it'll work this time.
Mine was doing the same thing, I recharged the A/C and it seems to work correctly now. Check that first. PS It did have a low charge so it seemed cool but when I brought it up to the correct capacity it fixed the problem.
Ok, cool. Did you recharge it yourself with a canister from an autoparts store? I was hesitant to do that cause I thought I saw someone say the system is sensitive.
I have a full set of gauges so I recharge using those but if you just add one can and see if that changes the way the controls work. The system only holds 3 cans from empty, the most you should have to add is 2 if it is blowing cold now. Start with one and see what happens
