Speaker Wiring?
I bought a C4 that was missing the radio. The wires going from the speakers to where the radio goes are pretty thick. Maybe 12-14 guage. And there are two wires coming from each speaker. The wires on the harness look pretty small... how would I go about connecting the two so I can install an after market radio? Could I just solder the thick, and thin wires together?

Many times aftermarket radio wires are smaller than oem. You need atleast a wiring diagram. If car had Bose radio control head on dash is only one part there is a reciever also. youtube has videos that may guide you.

As you have an 89, there is no separate receiver. If you have a Bose system then you can't just connect an aftermarket stereo to the wiring harness in the dash, as each speaker has it's own amplifier.
These diagrams should help you Also here is an adapter to use the factory harness with an aftermarket stereo, assuming you ditch the bose speaker/amps. https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...70-1677-1.html

I’m not sure if it originally came with a Bose system, but the PO installed after market speakers, and two after market wires coming from each speaker, leading to where the radio goes.

In that case, you could use an adapter I posted to connect a new unit to ground, power, etc and just connect a new head unit to the wires eh PO ran. Unless you want to go back to factory.

Crazy idea but maybe it might be best to forget the whole thing and start with fresh wiring instead of relying on the PO's rigging.

Not at all crazy, but probably the best advice given here. You never know how many fingers were in the pie. Start from scratch and keep a diagram of your wiring for future reference!
