Looking for recommendations on a set of new mufflers. The ones that came on my vette have hollowed out from rust and the drone is unbearable. I am not looking for very loud, should be able to hold a conversation over the exhaust without raising my voice too much. I prefer a deeper tone like the hooker aerochambers I have on my firebird but of course they don't exist anymore for a C4. I have looked for videos and sound tracks without too much success. Suggestions are encouraged and if you have a sound clip you can direct me to all the more better.
Thanks in advance

A Corsa cat back system would be my first choice. The build quality is excellent and the tone is great with zero drone. I currently have a pair of Flowmaster mufflers and an unknown Y-pipe on my 86. It was on there when I bought the car two years ago and appears to have been on there for some time. I think the tone is excellent and there is no drone what so ever. I don't have a sound clip but I have a picture of how the system looks on the car:
Magnaflow cat, stock type rear y with crossover tube and the reproduction OEM mufflers is the first one. Then I went with the mid america eliminators. You can her the differences. The second one is recorded with the best microphone I had and is pretty damn accurate to how it sounds.
There is a mild cam, it is comparable in specs to the 89 L98 cams. Similar lope to my cousins 89 GTA for what it's worth. The first one is stock to stock. Listen through decent speakers or headphones and it'll give you a good idea. The eliminators are deep and throaty, shakes the house when I pull it out of the garage. The stock ones did as well but they were just very quiet driving around. Wind noise covered them up at 50. The eliminators do not drone much at all with the 4 speed unless you're around 1400 rpms or just a tad at 1800 that goes away after 10 more rpms. Top on is pretty quiet.
I just bought a pair of Walker Direct Fit SoundFX mufflers. They were cheap, only $55 each. Someone had recommended them for a basic oem style replacement. I’m hoping they go on easy and last a while. Mine are also rusted out and embarrassing sounding.

as long as you can separate the old muffler from the y pipe, they should just drop on. Mine fit rather nice while I had them on. They're currently on the shelf in my shed.
how is the drone with the sound fx compared to stock? I am really hesitant to buy them if they are going to be uncomfortable for day long trips( 4-5 hrs)

The soundfx should be stock sounding with essentially no drone.
walker quietflows seem to be the best of both worlds - just slightly louder than stock with zero drone. pricewise, will set you back about $600 for a complete system from summit racing. I have an upgraded 86 system on my 85 which includes the catless front Y-pipe. sound wise, it works for me and my old man ears -
I had a set of OBX mufflers on my 84' (LT1 swap, cams/heads) I actually had OBX headers into an OBX catback. The mufflers were too quiet for me.
LT1, H/C/I, no cats and this is how quiet it was idling...you can hardly even hear the fairly large cam. In the throttle it was loud like any other car with a catback.
I put on muffler deletes, and I don't have any drone in my cruising RPMs.
Basically the OBX mufflers are a rip off of the Corsa system and they are quite quiet. Definitely a deep tone. The stainless is holding up nice as well. I have had the headers/catback for like 8 years without ANY issues with the metal quality. Still looks good.
pretty sure dynomax still has their sound guarantee, if you install them & dont like it they will take them back.
Most turbo mufflers are quiet, larger case moreso.
I just put Walker SoundFX on my 88 convertible; they sound just right and super easy to install. buzz a slit down the section where they slip on and just a couple 2 1/4 " clamps, plug and play.
Forget about the restrictive y pipe configuration and install true duals from an LT1/4 if no inspections. Really makes my ‘89 sound like a Vette should.
