I recently bought a 1984 corvette. It came with a handful of problems but the engine and trans is good. The problem I’m having right now is the speed sensor, I get a code “24”. I am not sure what to replace or look for. I am trying to do everything myself to the best of my ability because I am 16 and am trying to do things myself.
To DIY you need factory service manuals. It will have information related to how things work along with repair procedures. Code 24 relates to vehicle speed sensor. Does speedometer work?

No the speedometer does not work but everything else does. The car did not come with a manual but I have found a pdf of one on the internet but on that one I can’t seem to find anything that has to do with the speed sensor.
VSS or vehicle speed sensor mounts on transmission. It has a 2 wire plug could just be disconnected, wiring damaged. If you remove sensor and spin gear while someone else watches speedometer with key on to see if needle moves. If it does something is wrong with speedometer gears.
Batee.com has information related to cluster.

So is it underneath the car where the chords are located?

Looks something like this, Use large pliers to remove.
Here is what you need to work on that 84. Don't throw random parts at problems though. Diagnose first!
Search eBay of Amazon for a factory service manual (FSM). It is different that the owner's manual and gives detailed diagnostic and disassembly/assembly instructions with pics and diagrams. It will save you hundreds and thousands of dollars.
I like to buy used parts from www,vette2vette,com and new from www.corvettecental.com. Call Corvette Central and get their catalog.

The picture above is of a speedo sensor with a mechanical cable. Yours will look nothing like that. It is in the same location; the drivers tailshaft and have a connector with a green and black wire. Often this connector can be knocked loose. Check this first.

I'm with 383. Your speed sensor will look nothing like that.
Here is a better shot of the tailshaft housing. The round spot is where the sensor sits.

I found the green and black wire but it is just connected to two connectors that are dangling
Those look to be the connectors for the 2nd or 4th gear solenoid and the back up switch (light green wire) for the Doug Nash Overdrive unit. These would not have any bearing on your speedo issue.
Old image I had showing the view up of the different sensors. Please clean them before plugging them in.
