The chunk of I-80 between Wendover UT/Bonneville Speedway and Aragonite is good for testing your car; smooth rd, flat as a billiard table, straight as a gun barrel, wide open visibility....and no traffic. I know someone who cruised @ 160 for a few minutes there once.

For yuk-yuks, it was even put into 6th gear to see if it would hold that speed in 6th. It did. Got 9mpg at the same time, which seemed "decent".

My wallet gets scared when I go more than 10 mph over the limit.
I once assisted the doc as he pulled a huge splinter out of the buttock of a Michigan State Police officer during my shift at the Urgent Care I worked at.
Since we kinda had him at a disadvantage I asked, "How fast do I have to go in a 70mph zone to get pulled over?"
He replied that if the road was clear and traffic was moving smoothly then I could get away with about 81mph if I was driving safely. He stated that I could get pulled over at a lower speed if I was driving like an idiot. It all depended on road conditions, traffic and the type of driving I was doing.
He had come to our facility in Grand Rapids as it was about 50 miles from his Hqs in the lower part of the state. He had set on an old wood bench while changing at the Hq's gym after a spirited basketball game. He got speared by a good-sized piece of wood that could not be removed by the other guys there. He was too embarrassed to go to the nearest ER as all the nurses there knew him. Big guy, about 6'5". He looked like a Congo warrior and had a great sense of humor.

I'm a police officer and I usually won't stop anyone for under 10mph over. If I do, I will issue a warning and use the stop to look for other things. I like to cite at 15mph over the limit and up. I figure that's reasonable given the average person typically knows when they are 15 over and the speed is intentional. Every situation is different and each stop must be treated as such. I always hear the person out before making my decision to write a citation. The fastest I have ever written was 113/65. The guy was from out of state (VA) and had his young son in the car. The court appearance was mandatory. He was driving a Mercedes coupe. I don't remember what the model was. I have stopped a couple Corvettes over the years. I give those guys breaks usually. But honestly most Corvette owners don't drive like animals.

Before I got my Vette I remember always seeing Vettes in the right lane doing the speed limit, and usually an older gent was driving. I always thought they were just afraid to go faster or simply obeying the speed limit because they were older. Then I got mine and came to the realization that you sit so low to the ground that 60 seems like 90! It took me a while to trust my speedometer but still felt like I was violating limits all the time. No tickets yet and I drive it like the devil lol!

I always wonder how they catch the over 130mph people unless they know they have somebody way ahead they can radio to. I know, if somebody has over 100mph head start on you from a dead stop, you're not going to catch them for a long long way.

My younger brother, a PA State Trooper used to tell me that the Motorola microphone was faster than any car.

This is spot on. We radio ahead and stage other units for the pursuit. Neighboring agencies will also join a pursuit if the pursuit runs through their jurisdiction and their pursuit policy permits them to join in.

Tried that bit in a 70 Z/28 back when the CHP used 5.0 stangs. Helicopters help a lot. lol
Not sure where one can even get TO the speed limit in SoCal these days, its so congested anymore unless you live somewhere real rural.
Never speed, no tickets. Some cars seem invisible though, my truck is one; when I used to have vettes youd really had to have restraint it seems you stand out like a sore thumb and people expect you to speed.
