Default Temp guage ?

Ok, need a little help here gang. In the morning when its like 60 degrees outside, I start my vette, and temp guage sais like 102-103 degrees all ready. Is it guage/dash cluster or temp sending unit in head? Sending unit in head is like 2 yrs old, its one purchased from Autozone though. Any thoughts? I have an aluminum two core radiator with two 1” rows installed and 160 thermostat. When running in traffic and fans on, guage is reading anywhere from 185-200 degrees.

What year car do you have? If you have an digital gauge I'd go with that and not worry much about the analog gauges. I find them to be wildly inaccurate. Indicator is a better word than gauge, IMO.

Where does the coolant gauge bottom out? Does it even go down to 60F? Gauges are also inaccurate at their extreme readings, in general. Has the behavior of the gauge changed recently? Temps sound about right when you are driving. Still not sure I'd be concerned.

Digital guage starts with engine temp “LO”, than starts reading at 100F.

If you are really worried about it when it is heated up take a digital laser thermometer and check the block temperature against your dash reading. Those meters are inexpensive at harbor freight. Your dash temp should start at reading LO then start registering 100F- up.
