Yes.. Under the carpet, back behind the window blind, on the very back of the interior, towards the center, there's a little cable with a handle.

Or at least there is in 85.

Confab has it. The two you mention don't work for some reason. Just suddenly stopped working. I'll have to check it out after I get it open. I should have said "manual release",,,,,sorry

I know on the older ones, if the interior light timer dies, the releases on the doors stop working.. (I think? I've slept since then)

But the one on the center console should still work..

I wired past my timer for this reason.

That's on my list of things to do. Since I've purchased the car the lights/door release have not worked. I've laid on the floor and can't find the timer. The console release always worked but I'm getting the car ready for the road now and suddenly the console release won't work either.

I think my timer was behind the breadbox/center console area, up high. I had the diagram when I did it, but splicing the white wires bypassed it.

I've read threads that say it's just "duct taped" sort of as an after thought, but all say it's up high. I'm not as nimble as I once was, I'll just have to persist until I find it.
Thanks confab

Sure!

PS: Getting a "breadbox eliminator" really cleans up the look of the interior, and makes maintenance of anything back there SOOOOOO MUCH easier..

Best mod I've done yet!

I need to do some pics of it, but I used some cool looking, shiny, large, allen bolts and large anodized washers with U-nuts, and thru-bolted the carpeted bolster below the breadbox also.. I wanted them to look decent, because it is straight through the carpet.

It's like, a million times easier to deal with anything in that area now.. Totally worth it.

If you get some time posting some pics would be greatly appreciated. I wanted to ask what the "breadbox" was but I didn't want to sound dumb.

Sure.. It's sunk in the barn/building out back right now.. Ripped apart for painting the hood.

But, basically the breadbox is nothing. It's a big piece of reinforced foam.

Allegedly, to hear tell, it was a place they planned to put the airbag, because there was a concern they would mandate them soon and GM wanted to have a provision for mounting one if they did. Is that true? I dunno.. But it sure looks like it could be the case.

But there's nothing there now.. Just a big piece of vinyl covered foam with some aluminum bracing behind it.

And it sucks because it makes getting to anything back there much harder than it needs to be. With the eliminator kit, I can remove the plastic panel with a couple of philips screws and it is wide open.

The carpet bolster below has bolts embedded in it (4) that run back through holes in the structure and attach with nuts on the back side, and they're hella difficult to get on and off because it is up and under the dash. I pulled the bolts/studs out of the plastic backing of the bolster, put u-nuts in the holes in the structure and got some good looking bolts and large washers to spread the weight out (I think they're 50mm and anodized aluminum) and just ran then through the carpet from the front, instead.

Zip those off and the bolster comes right off.. SIMPLE!!

Mine had major wiring/PCM issues in that area when I got it thanks to previous owner, and I can't tell you how bad it was laying on my back, trying to work up under there and get it all on and off.

Finally found my emergency release cable and it did not have a handle, just a bare cable end, really difficult to see and even more difficult to grab onto. I saw someone crimped a small electrical connector onto theirs (with a hole) and attached a split ring (for keys). Did that to mine, best mod ever
