Default Door handle inserts

Have any of you used these metal door handle inserts? I bought a set for mine because the original plastic was all cracked. These seem to be way too wide to fit down into the arm rest area. They came from a Corvette vendor and they were listed for my ear which is an 89, but when I try to put them in I cannot get the armrest to push back far enough to get the screw holes to even line up with the insert in the door that the screws go into.

I have them on my 85, and they are a tight fit. I vaguely remember having to really push in on the door panel assembly to get the two mounting hole to line up. I did add in the late model foam sound insulation/vapor barrier to my door, so that may have had something to do with it. they are a minor PITA installation, but IMO well worth it. my only suggestion - double check for any door to door panel interference.

Yes, I had the same problem with that kind. I threw them away and got the kind that looks more like a flat piece of metal that has a 90* bend to it.

I'm sure if you look around on the Corvette parts websites that you can find that kind.
