Hi. My 84 needs a passenger side door panel. I looked on ebay to see what was there. I did find a nice used one for the driver side amazingly, for my coupe. The passenger side has proven to be tougher, so I bought a new door from a known manufacturer. When I got it in, the only difference was the upper portion of the panel has metal spliced in where the upper trim piece is held to and where it is supposed to sit on the inner curve of the door. Well long story short, it did not fit well at all. I tried but it just never sat on the upper edge well because the curve was not even close. It was almost straight compared to the original plastic piece. I know that is where the panel wears and breaks the easiest but I was upset at the stamping. I sent it back to Corvette America with a long note, my old panel and sent pictures as well. They have had it for almost 2 weeks with not even a reply that they got it.
These panels are expensive but now I am afraid that all are built this way. They should fit from 1984 to 1989 cars. Has anyone else has this problem? Has anyone bought a panel recently that was all plastic and from what vendor? I would prefer plastic because they will fit the contour plus I don't think I will be around another 34 years and the originals held up fine for a very long time.
I am glad, and sad, that I am not the only one. I almost wish we could all get together and not buy from them until they fix this obvious problem!! I wonder how to approach the moderators of this forum to see what might be done about who ever they are buying these parts from. That gap plus the gap where the hand pull mounts together. I found over a half inch to have to pull it down to get the two pieces to meet. That is incredible.
