Default C4 engine question

Hey all, New here but I was looking to buy a 1987 C4. I've attached a picture, and in the picture it looks like there is some sort of blue sealant on the engine pictured on the top left of the photo. Any idea what they were trying to seal up? Would it be something that should make me be concerned? Thanks!

It appears to me that it is blue silicone trying to seal the throttle cable where it goes through the firewall. If I recall correctly from my 86 there was a fitted rubber grommet that sealed the cable where it went through the firewall. Hope this helps.

Makes me wonder if something broke in that area and they applied a hack fix. Engine bay seems clean though, so I don't think you dealing with someone who applied jury-rigged fixes through out the car.

Also in the future just upload picts directly here, it's easy to do.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense.

Would you recommend cleaning up the area and re-sealing it with fresh sealant or leave it be if it's been doing the job?

I appreciate the response. It does look like a hack type job...you are right, the rest of the engine bay looks pretty clean, that was the only area that sort of drew my attention. I'll ask you the same thing I asked the previous person who responded...would you clean off the old material and re-seal it or just leave it if it has been doing the job?

My apologies for posting the pictures as an attachment, in the future I'll post it directly to my post. Thanks!

I'd first ask the seller what the story is behind the fix? Can't say I've heard of that being a problem area before. As to whether I'd leave it or not, tough call...if it's a harden epoxy I'd worry that removing it might make the problem worst.

Looks like the edge of the firewall there took a hit. Looks like there is a crack in it as well.
