I am looking to purchase my 1st Vette and have looked at both the C4 and C5 recently.
i viewed a 1995 C4 today and body work is good and engine sounds and performs well but for sure will look to get a mechanic perform a PPI before formally submitting an offer.
there are a few issues with the car and really appreciate feedback from the members on the below and if any have experienced this and know the approx cost to repair it would be ace.
1. Fuel gauge intermittently stops working
2. AC blows warm air only and up to windshield and foot wells only
3. all weather strips, window and door seals need replaced as some are perished and leaking.
The fuel gauges are a pretty common, (not as common as on c5) issue that's pretty easy to fix (way easier than on a c5). I wouldn't think the fuel level sender is more than 50nton100 bucks, but honestly running some techron through the fuel tank might fix it.
Weatherstripping... 200 to 500 depending on what quality you get.
AC, sounds like 2 issues. The hot part, I can't say, it could be a blend door, it could be out of freon with a leak, dunno. The defrost vents Could be a vac leak, but I would wait to troubleshoot it until after getting the ac working, as the auto ac will do some wonky stuff if it's trying to cool the car down but can't cuz hot air only. Unless you're a pro ac guy, that's gonna be a pain, so I'd ballpark a grand to have someone go in and figure it all out.
My first impression is the car sounds like it suffers from a lack of maintenance. You are definately wise to have a trusted mechanic go over it with a fine tooth comb - hopefully one familiar with C4s (as you don't want one using the c4 as his "learner".
I did not realise it needed to much when I arranged to go and view, the price was negotiated down with agreement to revisit price after mechanical PPI. I am new to the Corvette world and came here to get an idea on costs as if too much then I will not even go and take for the PPI.

thanks very much
To have those items repaired/replaced professionally, it'll cost you at least $1,600. Make an offer less that amount. Listen to your mechanic (if he is schooled in Corvettes) and take his advice. The rest of the Vette better be in excellent visual condition.

Thanks Retro for taking the tweekend me to read my post and reply, When I started the thread I was heading in the direction to not even take the car for a PPI and your reply as well as discussing it with a local mechanic (well versed in Corvette) I have decided to not move forward at this stage.
i am in no rush to buy and will keep looking online for C4 and C5 for sale and I know I will be back on here asking for thoughts from likes of yourself and others experienced with Corvette.
At that price, if it's a color you like, I wouldn't rule it out of contention due to those issues. That car in problem free form is 10 to 12k in most places, if it's a truly clean car.
Without seeing any photos of your potential purchase, an offer of $5,500 isn't out of the question. You'd still be buying a car that needs work. Probably best to look else where for one with less than 70,000 miles and in current good running condition. Spending a couple thousand more would be worth it, if you're not a pro mechanic.
Bet it needs a control module have fun finding one
'Strips could be a grand..or more
Good no issues C4s are 8-10.....same with an 80k C5
Many out there for less but they will need too much. Many with less than 100k, nice and shiny but what happens is peple that let things go...usually neglected the rest of it. Depends on whats avaialable in your area and how bad you want one. Make sure it drives solid...turned away a nice C4 as the front end was so bad it felt unsafe. 2k in tires parts labor adds up fast.
