Having purchased my '93 several months ago and having surgery just a few weeks later, I haven't been able to do much to the car, other than drive it. This past week began cleaning by removing one wheel at a time, cleaning the back side and all suspension components on that corner. As I was cleaning the first wheel, the back of which was completely black, as were all others, and I got it to where it was fairly clean, I noticed the word JAPAN cast in bold letters on the inside of one of the spokes!! Stock wheels !! The great American sports car has wheels made in Japan !? Does that mean I really have a ricer !? What a bummer ! Really pissed me off ! I've always wanted a Corvette, finally can afford the one I bought, but, what a letdown !!! I hope I don't find out that the whole car is really Japanese !!

Oh my!! - Corvette, the ultimate ricer? I think I'm going to run out to the garage an install neon lights under the rocker panels and a glowing license plate frame.
Seriously, enjoy your '93 - there's no ricer that comes close.

Buddy.....Calm down!! The rest of the car is American. I'm not sure what year of C5 it was but it had wheels available that were made in Italy. Don't fret!!!
Re: 'Ya learn something new every day !! (mikey44)
Many of the original wheels were cast by Enkei and I hate to say, were of better quality than the US was able to manufacture at the time.
Most of the precision castings on a Harley-Davidson are Japanese made. They were the best at it for years. I love it when the Harley guys start in on my Rice Rockets. They change their tune when I point out this fact and that most carbs and electrical components are either German or Japanese.
Edit: I feel like I should point out that I rode a Harley for 12 years. It just seems like the older I get, the faster I want to go. :flag

Brake components - Australia, Wheel-Enkei (Japan), MAF-Bosch (German)... yup, you can say that the Corvette is truely worldclass! In more ways than one!
Honestyly, the great pushrod V8, the spirit of the '53, the deep sound of the exhaust... Corvette defines American!

Beginning with the 88, the A/C compressor and starter were made by Nippondenso. The calipers are made by PBR, an Australian company.
Yea, I forgot about them. My 88's brake booster even had a chrome "Made in Australia" decal ... heck, it was one of the first things that popped out at me every time I opened the hood.
