I've seen guys install the Bose CD radios from Camaros in their cars. You need to make sure the radio is a 1.5 DIN unit to fit. The later C4's (90-96) radios are not drop in replacements for the earlier cars. There are usually some of the Camaro radios for sale on ebay, but be prepared to pay...they're pretty salty $$$ wise. My solution to playing my CD collection in my car was to get a Soundfly transmitter that uses an SD card. I can rip tons of music to the card, plug it in to the Soundfly, and I'm good to go...without having to carry around a pile of CD's. When I'm done listening, I just unplug the unit from my lighter and drop it in the console. Easy.
Why? Wouldn't you have to have the harness, Bose box and appropriate speakers? I removed my head unit and rewired so that I can make the system modular and not go the other way with Bose.
I have a GM Bose direct replacement for 84-89 C4's with CD. It looks like it came from the factory with it. I bought it new for my 89 NCRS car, when I sold the car, I put the OEM Bose Cassette back in. It is in storage and no picture handy but if you are interested PM me and I will send some pictures. $300

Will it work as a P&P install? I kinda doubt it if he doesn't already have Bose in it. At the very least, the speakers will have to change., IIRC, there is a "black box" in between too. It sounds like he is trying to retrofit one in,.

I installed this same unit in my 1985. It came from a 1995 Camaro. My 85 had Bose set up. Plug and play. Looks like it came in my 85 originally, and sounds great.
Yes. It has the Bose cassette system in it. I want to keep it as original as I can because it is all original with just 31,000 miles on it. The cassette player just ejects tapes but the radio works fine. If I have to pull the player to have it fixed I would just as soon have a CD player. I wonder why the later model C4 players don't work?

My guess is that it would work since it only needs outputs to the module. I don't know what the problem is as to whether it is a CD or radio or cassette. I would try it if I were you. OTOH, if it wasn't Bose originally, I would not.

Because your stock radio is a 1.5 DIN and 1990-96 are 2.0 DIN. In short, it's too tall to fit.
Your cassette player may just need new belts. After all those original rubber belts are 34 years old. Replacement belts for these Blaupunkt cassette decks are readily available.

Thanks
Thanks for explaining that it is a different DIN size. I pulled the player out to see if it was the belt but it was still intact.
They can "appear" fine, but the truth is they lose their tension after that many years, and thus, their ability to properly run the deck as designed. I fixed the same problem you describe by replacing the belts...it would pop certain tapes out randomly, and the tapes all had very free movement. Belts will run you about $10.00 to $12.00, and a replacement radio exponentially more. If it's truly a CD unit you want, then don't mess with trying to fix your deck, but if the deck is the only reason you're thinking replacement, I would personally reconsider belt replacement.
It looks like MarVac is sold out of the 9.2 but there are sellers on ebay that have them as well. Just copy and paste the part numbers above. You can also pull up hits on ebay by putting in the part number SCX4.9 and SCX9.2 (no spaces). They list them a little differently but they're all the same.

Good for you for taking the unit apart! I did the same thing and chronicled refurbishing the radio and adding an AUX port as well. Here's a link to the posting and accompanying 60 page guide which you might find useful.
I found a factory CD player in an early 90s Olds Cutlass at Pull a part 15 years ago for about 20 bucks. Looks really good in my 89. No pics, the ones I had were lost in the photobucket scandal and the car is not with me tonight.

This is an absolutely EXCELLENT write up refurbishing the radio and the tape deck. Thank you for taking the time to put that all together...awesome job!!
