Default Cold air induction ???

This will be going on a 96 CE LT4. Has anyone on this board ever used or knows some who has used this cold air induction system by SLP. Before I traded my SS I used their stuff all the time, but I don't know how they are with vettes.

SLP is stating a 20-25 HP increase. I know on the SSs with the LS1, they were usaully on the $$.

I wouldn't buy that claw one. What it seems to me like it really is, is just a way to remove a bunch of the restriction from the air lid, as opposed to real cold air. Of course, I don't know for sure, I've never done research on it. Another thing, I think it's rather ugly-looking. If you want an improvement, and I'm not saying it's better, because I don't have any experience with it--just seems like it would work better, is the ram air kit that installs in the front license plate area. IMO it's just as ugly as the cold air intake kit you're asking about, but it seems like it would be more effective. Another ram air kit on the market uses a hole cut in the radiator shroud to pull air up from underneath the car.

Don't believe the 20-25 Hp!! Not true for an LT4. It is a great looking system & easy to install. I have it on my LT4. Many others have this system and like it, but no one has ever said they acheived this kind of power gain.

Check out this thread, especially what vader has to say about the three cone intake. It confirms my suspicions that it isn't a real cold air intake. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=446254

the CLAW 3 cone thing doesnt help that much really, and then only above 80mph where the slightly increased flow might help trap speed. Its not even a cold/ram air setup, although a REAL cold air setup will help vettes, our engines work on the same principles as any others do. cold intake air=hp

I dont recall of anyone who has gained any significant ET from it. It certainly doesnt provide 20+hp, and is only slightly better than the cut lid w/ K&N.

You want my opinion, dont buy this one, save your money for a more worthwhile mod.

The setup you have pictured still draws air from the same area of the engine compartment as the stock filter so I'm at a loss as to why it would be called a cold air intake. To qualify as a cold air intake in my opinion you either need one of the two available kits that draws air from the underside of the radiator shroud or a forced air intake.

IMO for the money asked I would skip on the intake pictured and either go for a K&N and cut lid (lowest cost) or a true cold air intake.

I've got an SLP Claw on my Vette and I love the way it looks. As a matter of fact, the way it looks was the only reason I bought it.

The Claw flows up to 1500 CFM, which is the same as the factory air cleaner with a cut lid and quality filter.

I've got a couple of pics of it installed that I can email to you if you'd like to see them.

:yesnod: Exactly! I've gotten more than a few compliments with it on. It also gives you more of a "throaty" sound at WOT...sort of like a 4bbl without the airfilter. :D

It is true that they make a different sound than the stock setup, kind of a whistle or whoooosh if you were standing in front of the car.

And the couple ive seen it on do look cool.

I run a vortex air rammer.....only down side is you must cut the radiator shroud....by no means difficult but a decision that can't be undone easily. I jumped on board. The transient response of the car was improved, but 20 HP :bs ....hmm...10 maybe ....anything over that stock POS is better....no doubt

I couldn't hear or feel any difference when my car was stock, it just looked good. Now with the stoker engine, you can definitely hear it sucking air. :yesnod:

I've got the SLP intake on my '94 -- had it for 2 years now. It doesn't really give any performance increase, but it sure does look good :jester ! That is the primary reason I bought it. I did not want to cut the radiator shroud for the BPP Vortex.
