Re: How do I remove a Bose 1990 head unit (aroulette)
Does the 90 have the newer (orange illumination) interior? I think it does. Anyway, to replace the head unit you pretty much have to replace the speakers and wiring. The alternative is to buy converters to run the Bose speakers and amps, but the converters are $90 each and you need two of them. Best thing to do is spend that $180 on speakers. It will sound much better, be more reliable and cost less in the long run. The install is not difficult. Post your question in the audio/electronics forum. Do a search for "Bose" in that forum and you'll understand better. Or you can click on my ID and see the threads I've participated in on this subject. I'm just too tired to write it up again!
Re: How do I remove a Bose 1990 head unit (aroulette)
I had my 87's replaced and it required a special tool that slips into some tiny holes that would unlock it from the mount. Sorry, no pics. I did get the adapter that would keep the new unit from amping the bose amps. I had the work done at Best Buy where I bought the new unit, but I had to ask around at 3 different locations before I found a tech who know what he was doing.

Re: How do I remove a Bose 1990 head unit (aroulette)
Wish I could help ya out man, but an installer handled mine. From what I hear, when you put in a new deck it's a PIA to fit it in unless you have one of those professional filler kits. I had to have them use one cuz they couldn't fit the deck around it. They're cheap........like 15 bucks or somethin, but they make a world of dif for the installation not to mention the look.
Re: How do I remove a Bose 1990 head unit (aroulette)
The head unit is relatively easy to remove. Lift your armrest and remove the two screws near the front (near the hatch release) you'll also need to remove the shifter boot to get that piece off.
There are a couple of hidden screws in the AC vents above the head unit shine a flashlight in there and you'll see them.
You will need a wiring harness to run from the replacement head unit to the radio receiver which is located under the passenger side hush panel. Remove the carpeted portion and look in from the passenger side doorway you'll just be able to see a corner of a silver box (that's the radio receiver and the location of the antenna) I think I also need an extension to get from the back of the new head unit to the radio receiver.
