Hello every one, my name is Dan and a new member on here. Im orginally from S. Texas but have been residing in Central Illinois for too many yrs. Ive been a vette owner going on 2 yrs. Ive always been a Chevy guy, but a recent vette owner. My vette is a 1989 C4 l98. The tpi is all new to me and im not too sure on how to upgrade the performance on it. Ive started getting things for the the uografes but am stuck on the induction and the heads. Ive heard so many different theories on upgrading this two systems that im totally confused. Hopefully i can get some good help from experienced C4 owners. I look forward to being a part of this site.
Welcome to one of the best forums.
Every question you have about your C4 will have been answered at one time or another here.
I have an 86 vert and changed my heads and intake. I loved the high torque the TPI has but couldn't live with the quick drop off at 4500 rpm.
I went with Skip White 220cc runner heads for the price, had them shaved to 58cc chamber size and topped them off with the Edelbrock Pro-Flo xt intake. the intake is a tight fit under the hood but it does fit, just. The engine already had a 212/220 cam and hooker headers.
One of the driveshaft U-joints failed on the dyno so I don't have any hard numbers on it yet but if I lost any torque I would be surprised and now the engine pulls strong all the way to 6000 rpm. It is like having my 95 six speed back, minus a gear that I never used anyway.
I have as much in the top end of the engine as I paid for the car two years ago. No complaints though. I've had Corvettes in one form or another for 30 years now and will keep this one until I can no longer drive it.
A search for Edelbrock Pro-Flo xt will pop up some good photos of what the guys have in their rides.
Enjoy the toy.
Welcome from another Central IL sufferer resident! Whereabouts? I am in the Peoria-Morton area. Maybe I have seen you, or will see you, at a central IL cars n Coffee or some other event.

Thanks......sounds like you've found a good combination for C4. What i have for mine is comp cams xr270hr cam. I ordered tpis headers. I think that 270 cam is good to 5000 rpm or so. Ill be ok at that level. Ive been looking at the trickflow heads and the edelbrock performer corvette heads. Seems like a step up from stock. Anybody hqve any ideas on these two sets of heads? The induction is another area i have no clue. I was reading that the TPI can be ported and cleaned up that would help performance. Wondering if that really help at all. This is my winter project and hopefully i can statt enjoying by mid late spring.

Im on the east side of Champaign, in Danville. Ive only been to a couple shows with th
his car since ive owned it. They were mainly arounf Champaign area. Ive stumbled into a couple shows in peoria while passing thru. Of course this year I didnt go to any car show in illinois. Went to a few in Indiana. Im seriously hoping things get back to normal car shows this coming year. It would be awesome to run into you at a car show.

For starters I recommend getting a copy of the FSM for your '89; it is a red two volume set.
Do a little reading on the TPI system; I came from the carb generation and took a little reading to come up to speed on TPI.
What kind of power/performance are you looking to extract from your Vette? It is possible to bump HP to around 300chp with stock heads & cam and stock headers.
Is your '89 a vert or coupe, 6-speed or A4??
First off I recommend you remove the "frisbee" from the front of you water pump pulley. It looks like a large diameter disc. It won't actually add HP but will allow the engine to spin up a bit faster due to reduced inertia.
