Hey all,
Working on my 93 C4 this winter. car has just under 90k & I am in the middle of a steering rack change.
Sent out to Turn One for a rebuild & waiting its return. have all winter so no hurry and want to do as much as I should.
I know my way around a car fairly well but not sure where to stop on replacing parts. I know if it ain't broke don't fix it but here is where I am at.
Most coolant & other hoses are hard & most likely original so I will be replacing them.
I am thinking while I am at it yank the water pump? if I did I'd have an easier time with plug wires which also look original (AC Delco 7mm gray)
Is there anything else there I should look at?
Guess I need to decide if I want to spend an extra 200$ & aggravation changing the wires & then hope the opti holds out-
I don't know the history of the car but most stuff looks to be factory.
So where do I stop!
If you do the water pump, you're in for the whole shebang. Optispark, wires, plugs, and when you get those off you'll probably find oil leaks in the timing cover so yank the crank hub, replace the three timing cover seals. You already have it apart, may as well replace the coil and at least apply new thermal paste to the ICM heat sink. And since you have all that stuff apart and the belt off, why not yank the alternator, make sure the connector hasn't disintegrated into a brittle mess (replace it if so), and then do the valve cover gaskets?
I forgot I had the alternator off & already did valve cover gaskets.
Aftermarket opti worries me a bit but your reply makes is good direction.
Thanks for your info.
