Restomodding a junkyard candidate
I have a 1986 corvette base dark red over tan leather. I don’t want to send it to the junkyard, thats no place for any corvette.
I am also doing a frame-off restoration on an 84 monte carlo ss bbc/4l80e pro-touring car.
I am not wealthy and can not afford to restore both cars to the same level I am restoring the Monte Carlo. For that reason, and also because if I don’t do what I am planning to do, it will most likely end up in a junkyard, I am going to try out a number of outter fringe, probably make corvette purists cringe, build techniques. If you’re ok with the fact that the name of this project is “Cyberpunk Corvette” and it will be styled and modified in that vein, keep reading.
it currently has no engine in it.
it is getting a gen vi bbc 454 with sefi and a big Borg Turbo (I have a build thread that is not named well going on in the technical/performance section currently).
the paint and rear bumper were trashed. I got my hands on the aci early to late conversion bumper with the rubber beltline molding. I am going to delete and fill in the antenna hole.
the 86 hatch with the Buckaroo Bonzai overthruster brake light is getting replaced with an 85 hatch.
the front parking lamps/turn signals are being deleted/replaced with extremely thin led motorcycle turn signals that will be concealed. Other motorists will be able to see the lighting in the front cove, but not the light source. The bumper support will be opened up to allow the full airflow from the now empty parking lamp recess to enter the intake/radiator area.
the targa bar is getting painted with rustoleum black, the main body of the car will be painted in rustoleum safety red. Once I am done spending a month of my life sanding, spraying, sanding, respraying, color sanding respraying, color sanding, wishing for death, etc. and the paint is cured, it will receive an avery dennison Vinyl wrap.
The interior and factory gauges are trashed.
the gauges are easy and will be replaced with the intellitronix digital gauges. I have a set in the Monte Carlo and love them. Easy to read, easy to install, maintain the spirit of the digital dash.
I am going to rip the carpet and insulation out, I am going to de-bose this car in favor of conventional modern speaker setup.
I am going to scuff the interior floor, shoot it with primer, then spray bedliner in it from nose to tail.
I will keep the stock seats and door panels for now, but am considering an interior color change down the road.
my question involves the order of operations.
I am inclined to do the motor first, that way if I have to do anything Wacky to get the hood to fit, it is pre-paint/wrap.
Should I do the interior second? I am going to prep and prime the floors, but I am going to have the actual bedliner professionally sprayed, so it seems to me that should be before the paint and wrap as well, in case of overspray, or you know, by this point a corvette enthusiast sees it and tries to light it on fire.
Pictures are of the car as it sits right now, examples of the wrap I purchased, and a few of the corvettes I am drawing inspiration on.
My residential used car lot. I’m sure my neighbors love me.
4x4 mode engaged!!!
The Bedliner can be sprayed in red, and I’m kinda digging this red and tan 2 tone ferrari interior i found.
The ACI bumper permanently stored in my gmc envoy with the back seats folded down because its the only place I have to put it.

I especially like the nose on this one
Led tail lights with neon underglow. There will be neon underglow, get over it.

This is the pattern I got for the targa bar and roof panel
This is the material I ordered for the main body.
The late great miami Vice drift Corvette. This guy had alot of fun and built a cool car on a budget. This is the feeling I am after.
Found this company that makes awesome door panels for c4 corvettes

Please advise:
1. Link to BBC build thread.
2. Link to the company that does those door panels!
I think that you are on the right plan to install all mechanical first to see if the hood needs more clearance. There are some sassy hood scoops out there, or since we are playing with fiberglass...you can sculpt your own vision. :-) Then worry about the interior. On using bedliner...have you checked on if it will emit some sort of vapor/odor?

Time and cash are usually fairly interchangeable.
In this particular case, the point is to not spend alot of cash. I am not sure what you think is going to be particularly expensive.
His response to my email was as follows
Yes, I can make them.
The stock handle is recessed into the panel on those. So, I can either put a hole in the panel to reach the stock handle (like the "blank" set attached), or make an extension that attaches to the stock handle to bring it up slightly higher than the panel face (like the Jake set attached).
The panels are $275 blanks, $325 basic designs, or $395 premium designs. The C4 handle extensions are $80. If you decide you want to order, I can send you an electronic invoice. Just let me know what all you want (design, handle extensions, and/or pull handles).
The switches are the main reason I don't list the C4 panels for sale. There are too many variations by year or options to mess with. If you want to change to universal switches, like Autoloc billet as example, I can cut for those. Otherwise, I'd leave it to you to either mount your own switches or move them off the door.
Shipping is $55.
Regards,
Ric
He also attached these other 2 pictures. I think I am going to pull the trigger with these door panels. I like the ones with the door pull extension, and after looking at the autoloc window switches, I think I am definitely going to run those. I can get them to match the intellitronix dash.
